Re: Who is going to make a TLS outline bank?
I have some web dev background. This actually wouldn't be all that hard to pull off. The code to upload and organize pdf's would be pretty simple, probably wouldn't even need to code that many pages. Just need some simple graphic design. I could help if someone actually wants to do this. I think being able to organize by school, professor, class, etc and being able to rate would be golden (and of course the fact that its free). It would be easy to populate the site with good data since 1L's take the same classes every year.

It would definitely have to be pdf. Just pasting text would be a disaster.

I don't want my outlines either, hence the need for alternatives.rad law wrote:You don't want my outlines.

I actually have a site in the works now; wasn't going to be TLS specific, but I would certainly be willing to have a "TLS" section and am open to idea on how to restrict access to TLSers

Don't have any restrictions. Work out a link sharing agreement with Ken, SELLER OF MILLIONS OF HOUSES.bmontminy wrote:I actually have a site in the works now; wasn't going to be TLS specific, but I would certainly be willing to have a "TLS" section and am open to idea on how to restrict access to TLSers

Good idea. Thanks for the motivation, I will get my brother the info he needs to get the rest of the work done on the site.Desert Fox wrote:Don't have any restrictions. We could also have a sort by casebook option

Wow. Awesome. This is why TLS is fucking amazing.
ETA: would it be helpful at all to include an option for the outline maker to report his/her eventual grade in the class? To give some sort of reference if no one has rated/commented yet. I'm an 0L though so IDK if high grade necessarily = good outline.
ETA2: oh shit, I literally edited this a the same exact time as the person below me posted the same suggestion. *internet high five*

Great idea. Would it be helpful if people who post outlines also post what grade they got in the class? (What is the correlation btw the quality of your outlines and your final exam?) When an outline states somewhere that the person got an A or A+, I definitely take note.

I already have a field to allow for Grade made in the class, the difficulty is confirming this. I plan to allow an option to let people upload an unofficial transcript, but many would be unwilling to do this, and the "grade rec'd in class" field could not be guaranteed to be accurate

Ooooh that's a good point. Maybe add in a disclaimer on the report page (where users can see outlines) that says that it's self-reported? And then comments/ratings will have to do the rest.bmontminy wrote:I already have a field to allow for Grade made in the class, the difficulty is confirming this. I am considering this, and it may be the only way...Still keeping options open though as I would like to find a better method.crumpetsandtea wrote:Ooooh that's a good point. Unless you made a really poor grade, I don't think it has much to do with the quality of your outline itself (as far as its helpfulness to other people). I've seen outlines of people who made As and A+s, and they were horrible and not helpful at all. I've also seen B outlines that were really good.

I agree, but other people may want an A outline so I would like to allow for that option.eandy wrote:Unless you made a really poor grade, I don't think it has much to do with the quality of your outline itself (as far as its helpfulness to other people). Something that may also be helpful is a place where the person could have the option to include their syllabus. I know I had a ton of profs who skipped around, and I never once completed a casebook cover-to-cover.

I envision it to target specific professors more than targeting text books. I'd never use an outline not taylored for my prof.
