Now decline "agricola, agricolae" 10,000 times and come back tomorrow.
It might be prudent to note that the lesson is, of course, for the first declension.
Indeed! And that all nouns of the first declension (save, of course, poeta, nauta, agricola, and insula, among a few others) are feminine with regards to their gender.

As part of my 0L prep, I read over some famous cases and noticed that numbers were often used to reference past cases, dollar amounts, etc. As such, I will be enrolling in Advanced Calculus and Statistics courses over the summer to get a better appreciation for numbers. I can't wait.

The importance of Roman Law ( and later Cannon Law) and hence Latin to the development of both Civil and Common Law CANNOT be so flippantly equated with the importance of numerals in organizing the material in judicial opinions. (At least by reasonable people.)

However, I think an understanding of Advanced Calculus or any other educational endeavor designed to facilitate mature numeracy could only be helpful in studying certain aspects of the Law, especially in approaching the work of the Law and Economics theorists.

Also this:

"Latin is a key which opens the door to clear communication. In past ages, in the West, Latin was like the internet. People who did not speak each other’s languages, could meet and understand each other through Latin. Today. Latin is still the clearest – and also the most enjoyable – route to understanding your own grammar, in any language. And grammar is the basis not only of clear writing but clear thinking."

In the field of linguistics, we have a techincal term for opinions of this type:

Fucking wrong.

Latin is the worst, most round-about way of understanding English grammar; we are in a different language sub-family, and the grammatical foundations of Latin are vastly dissimilar to those of the Germanic ilk. As for enjoyable, I don't see it. I took four years of Latin and it wasn't exactly exhilirating, but I guess your mileage may vary.

And as for clear writing, people who abide by prescriptivist rules set forth by ancient instructors in Latin (don't split an infinitve ect) usually sound uptight and bore the shit out of their reader in record time. Good command of Latin does not lead to a command of English as it is spoken. Studying another language may teach you something about language generally, but so can cracking a book or reading wikipedia.

Additionally, the notion that grammar is the foundation of thinking is goofy. Come back and tell me you think that after doing even a cursory study of the world's languages.

Modern French is distinctly different than the Norman which influenced English development.

It is probably still closer than the Latin that influenced the Norman French that influenced English development though.

Probably, though study in Germanic language will teach you far more about our grammar than French, which has more of an influence on our vocabulary than our grammar.
