How does everyone feel after their first exam? Forum

The funny thing is the following formula has always worked for me:

If you think you did bad = You did ok, solid B.
If you think you did ok (B range) = You rocked it and are likely getting an A/A-.
If you think you absolutely rocked it = Get ready for your C+/B- below-median status.

Man, I hope this is correct because I walked out of Civ Pro and all I could think of was the 40 degree day scene from The Wire.

I feel like I bombed both my crim. law essays and multiple choice, and I feel sick to my stomach because I forgot to make sure that all my circles were bubbled in correctly on the Scantron. Seriously hoping I didn't "mis-bubble."

I feel rather pissed off about my exam experience for two reasons:

(1) A ridiculous, draconian 2500 word limit for a 3-hour torts exam. I feel like I wrote intelligently and concisely about all relevant (not tangential crap) in the first hour long issue spotter. Come to find out I was already at 1400 words . Needless to say, I tried to write even more concisely for the rest of the exam. With about 20 minutes left I had to go back and cut out over 400 words to get my exam back within the word limit. Even then, I still knew there were other relevant issues that were going to be left out. You'd think a professor in his first semester would err on the side of not having an unduly restrictive word limit. Whatever.

(2) He tested on issues that we barely covered in class, while leaving out issues that he spent the most time on. We literally had nothing on factual cause, proximate cause, and nonfeasance/special duties. Nada. We spent weeks on that stuff. I feel betrayed.

Wow, that was exhilarating. Fastest 4 hrs of my life. Our civ pro exam had 5 questions with varying pt values (40, 30, 10, 10, 10). Luckily, the 40 and 30 were in the areas I felt the most comfortable with. Among the 10's, I feel like I nailed one, did ok on another, but the final 10 I wasn't really comfortable with. I think it had to do with not understanding completely how to analyze the issue. I mean, I knew what the general idea is, but not how to fit the facts into the mold I knew. So my application in that last one may be pretty poor, but hopefully I don't lose too many points there.

Darted right out of the room when it ended. My friends and I all agreed not to talk about it, and were keeping that promise. Hoping that I did enough with the 40 and 30 and my real solid 10 to bring me well up above the median. Though I don't foresee any A's in my near future.

1750 words? I just finished a 4 hr exam and had over 6000 words. Can't say I'm very word-economical. My next exam is 10 questions each with a 100 word limit and no time pressure (4 hrs for an exam that he swore will take about 2) So I'd better learn fast.

Yeah. It happens. Not actually that worried about it (or at least I've convinced myself of that). The multiple choice questions were ridiculous though. At this point, I would be pretty happy with a B and thrilled with anything above that. Like you said, on to contracts (which, unlike crim, I am woefully unprepared for).

its so hard getting used to curves

in my UG major everyone got curved up.. ie not on any consistent distribution because exam grades would consistently average in the 50s and 60s

it is just tough to reconcile with the fact that it is probably impossible to get a 100% on a law school exam and there's no consistent quantification of what amount of stuff you had to address/multiple choice score to earn a certain grade.

Exhausted. Absolutely no idea how I did. Also the first half was in-class multiple choice and half the class was talking afterward. I pretty much put my fingers in my ears and booked it as quickly as possible. Neither the MC nor the issue spotter were bad, and I think I did my best, but I'm not sure if my best was good enough. Oh well.

I feel like shit after my torts exam. I literally do not know what the hell I typed.

The day before that exam, I noted two areas in my outline where it would be evil for the professor to test us on. My predictions came true.

After the exam, everyone's face was blank. Most people I talked to said they were either depressed or felt like they got raped. Downed 3 beers, and did nothing for the rest of the day.

I just replay the question in my head and wonder what I wrote or if maybe I read it wrong. Then I weep.

Last year I actually didn't even see one of the questions I had to answer, because there were about 7 of them buried in 10 pages of fact pattern. That particular test went...poorly.

So I'm walking out of my torts final to hear somebody ask someone else, "So did you catch the Trespass to Chattel involving the liver?" LULZ! I don't know why I found that so hilarious, nobody else thought it was that funny. He was joking around and the guy he asked had this look of horror on his face.

But I feel like I did well, and will try not to speculate on it. I'm trying to rev myself up to do Civ Pro.

We have a 1750 word limit for our 3 hour property exam....not looking forward to it.

same for torts, 1750 words / four hours. how the hell do you distinguish yourself with such few opportunities? everyone is going to see the big stuff, and you can't waste time or space on creative/novel sub issues.
