Yeah, I spend about 3 hours per day per class reading. I'm taking twice as long as most students, but I have nearly everything committed to memory and I haven't started outlining.

Some people also appear to be doing nothing yet are working their asses off when you don't see them. There are also some who like to pretend they don't study when they really do.

I wonder how many people are out there pretending like they don't study or read. I think I have said two words all semester in class, but I suspect that most of the people who get cold called must be pretending to be brain dead most of the time.

Arbitrary decisions are not necessarily the same as random decisions. For example, during the 1973 oil crisis, Americans were allowed to purchase gasoline only on odd-numbered days if their license plate was odd, and on even-numbered days if their license plate was even. The system was well-defined and not random in its restrictions; however, since license plate numbers are completely unrelated to a person's fitness to purchase gasoline, it was still an arbitrary division of people. Similarly, schoolchildren are often organized by their surname in alphabetical order, a non-random yet still arbitrary method, at least in cases where surnames are irrelevant.

Mostly, I never thought the Socratic cold-calling method was of much use, so I never prepared for cold-call type questions and never really sunk my mental energy into it when called. I just said whatever I thought would get the prof to move on.

I wish we had more like you in my section. Today in con law the professor was almost begging a girl to say something obvious, and she just kept repeating herself. She was obviously unprepared and searching the wiki article to figure out what the reasoning was.

Then, we had a gunner battle where two morons were interrupting the professor so they could show off how much they care about politics. One was waving his arms wildly like he was on a talk show.

I try not to care too much about grades beyond working hard, but I really hope I do better than the d-bags in my section.

Lots of folks (including myself) never outline or read hornbooks before the weekend prior to exam period. There's a method to our perceived madness.

I just meant that studying for an exam weeks in advance doesn't do me any good. I do the assigned reading and go to class, but that's it (and have a lot of classmates like this) until December rolls along. Then I spend the 1-3 days before each exam creating an outline (usually with the help of a hornbook), and it's all there and fresh in my head for the test.

This might be a stupid question but how long does outlining really take? There is one caveat in my situation I only have 2 exams in December based on 10 weeks of material because Chicago has this weird quarter system.
