By-pass those rules. I went into admissions and even though our schedules are supposedly not released until orientation I begged my way into that and a list of books so I could afford to buy some books used. I argued that knowledge ahead of time would save a ton of money, and of course 1st year students are just flat out broke not being allowed to work. Try it, worth a shot.

I don't think I have the balls to do that but if any other UIUC students do this and it works - send me a copy.evilxs wrote:By-pass those rules. We don't get our sections and class lists until a couple of weeks before classes in August. Thankfully I'll be on campus early for the summer institute and have access to books right out of the gate.

Re: 0L's: Anyone gotten their schedules yet??
I sort of attempted this the other day and failed. The bookstore website does have 1L book info but pretty much every professor has a different book listed so it's really impossible to say which we need to purchase until we receive the schedule. I doubt they'll give an individual an advanced copy of their schedule.Kilpatrick wrote:I don't think I have the balls to do that but if any other UIUC students do this and it works - send me a copy.evilxs wrote:By-pass those rules. Edit: You can figure out some of the books that all of them seem to have in common. Pretty much all of the Contracts, Property, Torts, and Criminal Law profs have different books though. The common books are summarized below. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Legal Research
- Sloan, Amy E, Basic Legal Research: Tools & Strategies, 4th, Aspen
Legal Writing & Analysis
- Shapo, Helene S, Walter, Marilyn, Fajans, Elizabeth, Writing & Analysis in the Law, 5th, Foundation

You are like, really bad at buying textbooks online or way more particular about whether or not the book has some highlighting/underlining in it then I am.

Really particular about highlighting. I hate other people's stupid thoughts. It drives me insane.
I bought a used text for this summer's constitutional class and they are just dumb as a brick on what they chose to highlight.

We don't even have our email addresses yet and orientation starts Monday.
I haven't heard anything out of my school since June 8th. Not sure if that is a good or a bad sign yet.

Have had my schedule for about 2 weeks, now if my professors could only upload their syllabi to the database (one has, other 2 haven't...I don't get my LR&W section until orientation, so I'm not worrying about that right now), that would be super. REALLY don't want to have to go all the way to campus, into the bookstore, and write down all of the ISBNs so I can order my books through Amazon. Way too much effing work.

We've had our schedules at LSU since early July. I've heard reports of $1,100+ for all fall 1L books from the campus bookstore, but I was able to get everything on Amazon for $550ish. I'm happy.

Just got our schedules and book lists yesterday. Once we get past our legal elements course, my schedule will be Mon-Thurs. with no classes before 9:30am and nothing after 4pm.
Looks to be about $950 for books before figuring in additional supplements. Ugh.

Re: 0L's: Anyone gotten their schedules yet??
We got ours for Penn State a few days ago. My books come out to about $730 from the bookstore brand new but I am going to check Amazon to see if I can get some of them new there for cheaper. I have been told to buy new, especially the first semester, to make sure that the highlighting and notes don't throw off my own studying.
