As a 0L I'm not sweating the examples too hard. Or to put it another way...each example seems to sort of be structured so that it says, "Here's the example. As you know from law school, (I don't know this from law school) Rule A says this, and Rule B says this contradictory thing. Here's how we would write about each of them in our analysis." Since I don't know Rules A or B from Adam since I haven't been to law school yet, I'm just taking that at face value and assuming that by test day I will. In other words, I'm not worrying to much about the specific examples so much as getting a general feeling of what they're doing with them.corporatelaw87 wrote:I am reading GTM right now, I am only through a couple of chapters, but in terms of their examples, I am not really sure what they are talking about. Isn't this why reading Getting to Maybe before law school is super pointless? I never read it, but people I know who did said that it didn't mean a damn thing to them until most of the way through first semester.mmmadeli wrote:As a 0L I'm not sweating the examples too hard. Not everyone entering law school is totally clueless in regard to the law and/or arguments in general. Even with a simple underrstanding of argument, the book is helpful and useful in terms of expectations for essay content and structure.
After reading the book cover to cover the summer before 1L, I think an outline would be a great way to review prior to exams.
I'd certainly take a look at other's outlines as well.

One major point missed (not relating to forks):
1. Do old exams. Early and often.

This is the same approach I've had. Also placed a post it in the one part that has a few bullet points on outlines

Let me outline it too!
Getting to Maybe = There is generally no answer in law school. There is only a process. Do it! Do it!!!

The title is an outline. Don't bother reading the book. HTH.Kobe_Teeth wrote:Wouldn't that be good enough? Is it out there? Does it exist?

On an interest level I find it somewhat boring but I think it will be helpful. If you want to read something interesting, read some of the E&E's.

So I'm about halfway done with GTM, but I don't feel like I am retaining anything the book is saying. Are you other 0L's making notes to remind yourself later on? I haven't made any and don't want to reread it yet. Just curious how are you guys preserving all this info in your mind for when school actually starts.

I wouldn't recommend retaining all the specific details of the book as much as remembering the importance of the overall idea of "legal forks" in general. You would be amazed how many people at my school often overlooked ambiguities and jumped straight to one rigid answer.corporatelaw87 wrote:So I'm about halfway done with GTM, but I don't feel like I am retaining anything the book is saying.
