Williams and Sonoma also makes a great one called 'Fast Weekday Meals' or something like that. Coupled with a decent investment in kitchen implements, this can save you tons of money and time, and you will always have the ability to make great food.

Oh yes, a large casserole dish and a slow-cooker are essentials. There is nothing like having either a) mass amounts of enchiladas or b) a great chili ready and waiting for you when you get home.
Yum!

Black suits are for parties or funerals, not Job interviews/work. If i was a hiring partner and you came in a black suit, autoding.

Lazer Printer
Filing Cabinet
Comfy ass Chair
The most expensive/comfortable mattress/bed you can afford.
Nice Desk
Hi-Lighters(don't see what's wrong with Technicolor briefing)

A chef and a maid. You don't have time for that shit anymore.

A dedicated study area. I bought a folding table just to get one at home. I have insomnia if I study in my room.

A lunch bag. Because debt is evil and so is KFC.

An MP3 player. With my iPod earbuds in, idiots know not to talk to me.

A pedicure. Because I refuse to carry so many books that I cannot see my pretty toes.

Several caffeine sources. This is after all law school.

Post-it book tabs. Because you will forget where you were in that book.

Pens you like. Well, maybe...

A MacBook. I've never had a PC. This was not the time to experiment.

See my post above yours. The Sharpie Accents get good, vibrant color, but don't seem to soak through the pages of the Aspen (red cover) casebooks.
+1. I really like the Sharpie Accents. They have them in quite a few colors, too, if you prefer the multi-colored method.

And yes - you will have a very STRONG preference in highlighters... I really like the Bic ones that barbri and kaplan give out, but I think they are mainly produced in mass quantities. So, I have Staedtler textsurfer classic for at home and mass highlighting, then I carry Sharpie Accent highlight.
I've found that the liquid filled ones are pure shit.

Also, I found a cheap laser printer (Like the bottom line Brother) to be very useful. Lots of b/w prints cheaply w/o having to run to library. Also, laser >> inkjet for resume shit.
I second the bolded.

I personally stopped using hilighters, I now use:

In red and blue, red for underlining/boxing important case references, blue for everything else. These pens are phenom :)

For some serious advice - make sure your laptop is in reliable working order, and that it's a laptop you will like. I knew people with laptop problems, and it was VERY frustrating because at most law school you must take your final exams on your own laptop.

solid advice. my girlfriend's dell crashed the day of her final and she ended up having to rent a laptop to take her exam.

This has probably already been mentioned, but the single most important suggestion I could give is to buy a reliable, easy, automatic (if possible) backup system for your computer files. Most everyone can afford to drop $20 on a thumb drive and copy and paste your folders onto it. There is nothing worse than your computer crashing the week before finals and losing your notes/outlines/that damn memo that's due. Small percentage chance this might happen, but it sucks if your number gets called.

I had problems with pens and being able to see it from the other side of the page. Still an issue? (At least in the thinner paged casebooks?
Its fine for the blue/brown casebooks, I would have to test it with the red ones since those pages are more porous. With the micro pens (as opposed to medium and fine tip) its not as much of an issue because there's not that much ink.

I went to an Image Consultant's speech. She said that black suits are bad for interviews because black gives off that you are in power. You don't want to give that impression at an interview.

Also, underlining helps learn much better than highlighting.

I had to go buy the first suit I've ever owned for an interview last week. Got them for about $500 total thanks to Men's Wearhouse's second suit for $100 thing. One blue pinstriped, one charcoal. I don't care that they aren't the fanciest or most fashionable, they'll do the job. Until they fall apart, that is.

It's a little boxy for me... but in all seriousness I have heard that charcoal is better than black. My friend who attends a T5 said that black suits are for funerals. I'm probably going to buy a navy suit sometime soon. It's a mattter of afforability...

I would get a cat, too, except that most Graduate housing doesn't allow pets, and I'm pretty sure that's how I want to go i my first year no matter where I decide to attend.

Well obviously anyone at a T5 knows fashion.

i like the bic "brite liner" highlighters. they are pen size in width, making it easy to twirl in your fingers haha.

J.Press is good quality, but all their suits are sack suits which is not the best cut for most people

Whoa whoa WHOA... How did I not know this about black suits?! I am a pretty fashion-conscious woman. I mean, really, fashion is a bit of a passion of mine. The fact that everyone on this board had such a consensus about black suits is freaking me out. Black is white, up is down!

Seriously though, I did NOT know this. My only suit is black. I chose it because black is so much easier to match with shirts than charcoal, and especially more than navy. God I feel like a loser now.

Does this anti-black sentiment apply equally to women's suits?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
