I think I took my watch into the exam. I wasn't wearing it, but still. It was on the desk in front of me.

That's the thing.. last time I took the test, I saw people wearing their watches.. I figured it was ok. I really don't want to have to go through this hassle all over again.. sigh.

uhmm.. wth.. while I was getting ready to almost submit my exam.. the proctor comes up to me and says that I shouldn't have my wristwatch on. Takes away the wrist watch and tells me that she is going to report the incident to the NCBE.. I understand that it was my fault for not reading through the "not to bring list" carefully, but will they cancel my score for having a wristwatch (non-digital) during the exam...?

Our proctor told us the paragraph could be in print or in cursive, so I don't think it's worth freaking out over.

I thought this test was harder than the practice exams I did. Might be retaking in November.

I used block/print letters for the honor code thing... My proctor looked at that section to ensure I signed, smiled, and said have a good day. . . I can only assume that means she is NOT going to toss it in the shredder for "not cursive."

If NCBE wants me to write in all cursive, they shouldn't make me write Z's. Had to write out my exam taker number on the MBE and there were like five zeros in it. Be real, NCBE.

I am glad to see that the hardest parts of the exam were (a) not to wear a wristwatch and (b) writing a few lines in cursive. Not gonna lie, writing a few lines in cursive is gonna be pretty tricky for myself as well.

I haven't written a damn thing in cursive in 15 years...most mentally taxing part of the exam today. I was sitting there and trying to remember how to do an uppercase I in cursive, and finally just thought fuck it. That shit is unnecessary- print writing styles are just as distinctive as cursive, and they don't even teach it any more.

The lecture dude said 32-38 out of 50 was a typical passing score, and 38 was almost certainly safe. So I guess cautiously aim for about a 46/60 on the practice tests, but several questions lower than that will probably get you there as well.

10 questions are experimental and thus don't count. Adding 10 to your score would just give you a safe chance of passing. But yeah, the real MPRE was a lot more difficult for me than the barbri stuff. They really try to trick you with subtle changes in phrasing, whereas barbri was a lot more straightforward. I did bad on the barbri practice test I did so I can only assume I failed.

i thought the real thing was very similar, or easier. then again, i can't remember anything or any particular questions, so i'm not really a reliable indicator.

What will really suck is finding out you have to retake in November and paying the late fee! Deadline for November is Sept. 10. 5 weeks afterthe August 17 test is Sept. 21. They should make an exception for people who didn't plan to retake and have to now.

yeah that is going to be annoying. Do they release scores early like LSAT scores? ( I know LSAT scores would get released early, but don't remember if it was like a week or two early or just a few days)

I beg to differ. I thought the real MPRE was easier than the BarBri tests. I was scoring between 36-41 on the BarBri practice tests, so I hope my intuition is correct.

From what I can recall my friends got their scores back 5 weeks after the exam so looks like we're going have to pay the late fee and get stuck in a crappy location.

Mine was supposed to start at 9, but they didn't actually start administering (passing out tests and reading instructions and such) it until 9:30 and exam didn't start until around 10.

I found more up-to-date data on the raw score one might need to achieve a passing scaled score in his or her jurisdiction.

Per Susan M. Case, PhD (Director of Testing for the National Conference of Bar Examiners) in a March 2011 column entitled "Common Goals with Increasingly Similar Outcomes: Jurisdiction Approaches to Bar Exam Grading, Scoring, and Standards":

While there is some variability from one administration to the next, a score of 100 reflects a performance of approximately 68 percent correct. The current standards used by jurisdictions reflect lower performance levels: 85 is approximately 60 percent correct; 80 is approximately 58 percent correct; 75 is approximately 56 percent correct. The difference between an 85 and an 86, for example, is less than one question.

Raw | Scaled Score Conversion according to NCBEX's Director of Testing is approximately:
56% Raw (28/50) = 75 Scaled
58% Raw (29/50) = 80 Scaled
60% Raw (30/50) = 85 Scaled
68% Raw (34/50) = 100 Scaled

*I guess that's why Barbri recommends the 32-38 range to be safe because it probably puts a test taker above the scaled score of 86--the most any jurisdiction requires. I broke down the raw numbers out of 50 since 10 of the questions on the MPRE are experimental.

For those of us who studied with MPRE practice exams, this might give us an idea of how our raw percentages convert to scaled scores (approximately, at least). I hope this helps.
