If the dude is taking out a lot of debt though, which I'm guessing he

he better REALLY want to practice law and he better hustle his ass off. Otherwise gtfo now.

if you can't get tuition back at this point then there's really no reason to leave right now.

if you can.... well then i dunno.

I'd say it comes down to an analysis of continued cost vs. expected returns. If your dropping 50k a year for lawl school for bottom % of a t3, and you do not have anything in mind, you may be paying a lot of money to do DUI making 50k. It also depends on what other options you have. Is there some other kind of job you can go back to? or is your other option sit in your parents basement while you consider how bad you f'ed up lawl school?

If I finished at or below median anywhere but a T14 I would seriously probably consider jetting, especially if paying full sticker.

Well, there are a couple of questions. If you've answered these before, my bad.

1) What are your goals for legal practice? Would you be happy practicing in other areas?
2) School ranking?
3) Median score at school and your score?
4) Generally, I would give people the advice to stick it out for another semester if they are hovering around median or a bit below. Too far below, and I'd tell you to bail if you have specific goals in which grades matter (read as most of hte legal profession.)

It goes without saying, however, you should get advice from as many sources as possible and weigh your options using your own common sense.

Similar to what BJ said before, at this point your grades probably aren't even your biggest factor. I mean if you're gonna stay, yeah of course pull them up as much as you can. But right now you want to figure out if this is really worth it to you, and if it is, that's fine, but you have to be ready to network your ass off and try to find some way to make sure that you can end up with a decent job at the end of this. Because honestly from a pure economic perspective, it's probably the wrong choice to stay.

1L grade drop shouldn't be when you are thinking about what happens when you do below median.

I'll echo what H20 said. I think dropping out might be a bit extreme at this point, but you have got to start networking and, while you're at it, start figuring out what went wrong and what you can do to improve. As far as starting your own shop- not a good idea. Unless you have some sort of clientele established by the time you leave law school, you are gambling with a high risk of accruing significantly more debt without the means to pay it off. Insolvency sucks. Don't do it.

If you are having second thoughts about whether legal practice is right for you, get out now.

Where is the tier 3 and how much are you paying?

edit: Judging from your post history, I'd guess NY or Florida. Below median at a Florida or New York TTT is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad place to be. Hell you're in for a tough tough fight at median at any school in NY not named NYU/Columbia.

All grades are in.

Writing: A
Crim: A-
Torts: B+
Civ Pro: B+

Should I be happy? I can't decide. Im okay with civ pro, b/c i hated it so much I didnt do any work till the end. But B+ in torts, not so happy.
