Re: Exams - Anyone else notice classmates missing?
Maybe it's because we've mostly had take-homes this year, but I never noticed anyone missing and don't know of any top-of-the-class people at my school who have extra time. The only person I know of who took an exam separately did so because that person's house burned down the morning of the exam.

. Personally, I would hate extra time. If I have too much time, I start going crazy (my worst grades have all been on long exams). I'd rather just take a three-hour in-class racehorse exam and get it over with.

Your worst grades might have been in long exams, but presumably everyone had long exams. That's different than everyone having short and you long.

I was kind of thinking that. But based on the curves and what my "bad" grades actually were, the difference was maybe one or two people who did better on longer exams than shorter exams (and if you presume some people had extra time, they likely would have had it on every exam, so it wouldn't make a difference).Desert Fox wrote:I didn't notice anyone gone either.keg411 wrote:Maybe it's because we've mostly had take-homes this year, but I never noticed anyone missing and don't know of any top-of-the-class people at my school who have extra time. These folks distort the curve and contaminate/infect the entire grading process.
Nobody should be complaining though, because at the end of the day lawyers are the ones who relentlessly launch disability lawsuits that allege violations of the broad ADA provisions.

I think, at the very least, they should be graded off the curve.

They aren't graded off the curve at your school.Desert Fox wrote:I think, at the very least, they should be graded off the curve.

I don't think we have a problem with it. Certainly there isn't dozens of people claiming disabilities like people are reporting at other schools.Sauer Grapes wrote:They aren't graded off the curve at your school.Desert Fox wrote:I think, at the very least, they should be graded off the curve.

One of the guys that is in the Top 10 people of our class really wants to write a paper of some sort on it. Or more he just wants to get statistics on what the average GPA is for people that have the modifications. If the system is working the way it should, the average GPA should be pretty average. But if the accommodated people are averaging way higher...Desert Fox wrote:I don't think we have a problem with it. It's just pretty telling when of the two CALIs from Contracts last year- one was about 12-13 pages, the average page count was around that number, and the other CALI was 27 pages. I'll give you one guess who had accommodated testing.
