Can anyone recommend a good laser printer that isn't too expensive - maybe under $100 or $200?

HP P1006 is what I have. Got it for something like $90, it's reliable, compact, prints well, even plays nice with Linux.planopal wrote:Can anyone recommend a good laser printer that isn't too expensive - maybe under $100 or $200?

This one is actually cheaper after shipping, and comes with toner:

You might be able to snag one cheaper at auction, these are buy-it-now.
EDIT: Printer Depot has them for $180, no toner, free shipping. That's a really nice deal.

Will probably look familiar from college computer labs, or any firms you might have clerked for. I mentioned this printer in one of the computer threads a few days back, it's a favored industry workhorse. It's worth the extra $100, if you can spare it. You can throw the second tray in a closet or sell it, if it takes up too much room for you.

I just found about iAnnotate for PDF reading/annotating/highlighting on the iPad, for anyone who has one. (I don't, so I can't report how well it works:)

It was going for $100 on Amazon.com for a day. I got it for $80 before taxes and after a $25 off $100 coupon from Staples.com. Taxes came out to roughly $6-7 and the coupon itself was about $0.80.
Plenty of toner sellers for this printer on Amazon.com and eBay. I'm going the safe route and just buying OEM-branded ones from Amazon.com.

I haven't read through this whole thread yet, but some tech props are in order:
Chupavida - Nice keyboard. I have one for my desktop too, and it's amazing (mostly for gaming). Also, 3 monitors = win. I wish I could find some $10 monitors like that!
Matthies - I love that you have the constitution framed by your desk. No reason in particular, just sayin.

I like the Razer Mantis Speed pads, myself. Foam rubber mat with some kind of teflon cloth covering. And HUGE. I have a desk drawer shimmed open w/a trimmed shelf-board sitting on top of it. The pad covers it up and tucks around the back-end. That way the mouse is directly to my right, at arm level--I don't have to reach towards the desk to use it. I find that spares me a good amount of repetitive stress. My mouse hand and shoulder gets much less tired at home than at work.
And the best mouse ever is still the original Logitech MX1000 laser. I have a small hoard of them and still buy them from the 'Bay when I see them.
A useful mac utility is TextExpander (you can do the same thing with AutoHotKey on Windows, but it's more complicated.) You predefine abbreviations and it will expand them into words/phrases. For instance you could set trt'fzr to expand to tortfeasor.Or, for that matter '~s' to '§'. The only bugaboo is becoming too reliant on it such that it hurts your exam performance. It may also prevent you from learning difficult spellings, if you make it into a crutch.

Yep. Textexpander and AHK have the advantage of being a little more powerful/flexible and operating across the system rather than just in MS Office (such as in your browser--and therefore WL/LN, TWEN, TLS blah blah blah)vexion wrote:Hooray, more useful tips!Duralex wrote:A useful mac utility is TextExpander (you can do the same thing with AutoHotKey on Windows, but it's more complicated.) http://www.smileonmymac.com/TextExpander/This is pretty clutch. You can do the same in or OneNote through the AutoCorrect options (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/oneno ... 61033.aspx) without having to install AutoHotKey.
Actually, the easiest way to do it with AHK is to hook into Autocorrect. See here, for example:
