Re: Waiting for 1L grades...so much worse than waiting for LSATs
I'm glass-half-empty about getting all the grades at once. I know 3/4 grades are in the registrar's office already, and if they even released one lousy one I'd know to give up hope about transferring instead of having false hope for a few more weeks.
I keep checking to see if they 'accidentally' post our transcripts, what is the chance of a tech glitch like that happening?

Well, got one grade back. That certainly set my expectations in an interesting place for the rest of the semester. Jesus, I'm neurotic.

I have follow up. The grade is not online. I'm doing this very quickly while I wait for printing, but I'll use my lunch hour to go see it in person. People say he gave a C+ last year. I am frightened, because I know my oral argument was not good. I love my internship, though. I just met one of the clients we are representing, and this feels so much more real and worthwhile than just being a student. It puts grades into perspective. If what I am about to find out means that I will never get a job at OCI, I can still do this. I came to law school for public interest. If I never take a detour through the land of shiny things, I'll have less money, but probably more freedom and happiness.OperaSoprano wrote:<3YCrevolution wrote:It's quite unlikely.OperaSoprano wrote:I have a grade up: LRW. I probably need to go check it. FML. Someone tell me it's at least semi unlikely that I got something in the C range, given a B- on my long memo, which was 30% of my grade. The assignments themselves weren't curved, but the class itself has to follow a modified version of the curve, though it's under 20 people.
To rbgrocio: sends hugs. That's all I can think to say right now.

Re: Waiting for 1L grades...so much worse than waiting for LSATs
I was at my internship today when one of my fellow interns announced: Grades are posted!
Logged onto the website, and saw:
Civ Pro: A
Con Law: A
Property: A
App Ad: S(does not count towards GPA)
I was stunned. I expected to do well in Con Law and Civ Pro, but I thought I blew the Property exam. Needless to say, I've been happy all afternoon. Last semester, I had a mixed bag- two A's(1 book award), a B, and B-, and an S+ and was barely in the top 25%. With these grades, I may just grade on to Law Review, and I now have a 3.73, which historically has been cut off point for the top 5%. Law Review automatically takes the top 7 people in each section, so it will probably be really a close call to see if I grade on. One of my friends was freaking out because he got a B+ in a class, bringing his GPA down to a 3.8, but apparently his section is extremely competitive. I hope my section isn't quite that bad. There's about 20 spots for write on, so that's my backup plan in case the grade-on doesn't work out. Of course, rankings don't come out until after the competition is over, so I will still have to give it a 100% effort.

No grades yet, although I did finally psych myself up to look at my appellate brief grade - a B+, which is actually a lot better than I feared. We just finished exams on Wednesday, though, so it may be a while yet. I can't say I'm in a rush.

Re: Waiting for 1L grades...so much worse than waiting for LSATs
I just had my first professor miss a grading deadline. His ultra-hard exam is going to make or break my GPA, and I know when grades are usually posted for my school, so checking my school's website every two minutes for about two hours was not a whole lot of fun. Every time I clicked "See Grades," my heart started beating rapidly. That could not have been a healthy two hours.

Hmm, I bet I can guess what school you go to.stjaba wrote:PM sent????? wrote:stjaba - which section are you in?
Congrats, btw.
Edit: in addition, I am freaking out that the cutoff for top 5% is going to be higher this year. Hopefully that is not the case.

Re: Waiting for 1L grades...so much worse than waiting for LSATs
My school pulled a "we won't release any grades early, they will be available on June 1st, all should be in by the 21st" and I got my hopes up thinking that there might be at least one grade available today. I don't know why I fell for it again.

I'm not checking this time until people start with the obnoxious gchats/texts of "Hey, [class] is up."eth3n wrote:My school pulled a "we won't release any grades early, they will be available on June 1st, all should be in by the 21st" and I got my hopes up thinking that there might be at least one grade available today. I also like how they coincidentally set the deadline a week after transfer apps are due. Total coincidence though I'm sure.

we get E-mails from the registrar saying "Hey, Class X is up," in case we were thinking about maybe not checking for a couple of weeks and enjoying the beginning of summer.

Re: Waiting for 1L grades...so much worse than waiting for LSATs
Come on, you know better than that. If you bomb your first semester, you're pretty much screwed. No matter how well you do second semester, you won't be able to dig yourself out of the hole. Most of those prestigious summer gigs that are getting so hard to come by these days are doled out based solely on first semester grades (as you well know, it takes forever for the second semester grades to come out, so by the time they do, it's already too late to get an awesome summer gig).cardinal08 wrote:No, it's not. You can redo your first semester of law school, it's called your second semester of law school. It's like comparing your SAT to first semester grades . . . SAT much more important.
Merry Christmas to all!
Oh, not to mention if you screw up royally first semester, you're likely to lose your GPA-based scholarship.
So, OP, I 100% agree that waiting for grades is worse than the LSAT.

I'm in the section with NO grades. But truthfully, I'm too busy to care.Esc wrote:Some quick turn-in times are my due after last semester, when I didn't get my first grade until the second week of spring semester. I have 2 out of 5 grades in.

Oh jesus. Last semester we got all our grades at the same time, and this semester they have released some now and promise they will all be up at 4:00 PM Monday. I sorta wish they'd just held them all til then.

I don't give a damn about grades right now. I forgot to check if any were up today.

Class ranks came out yesterday, I made top 1%. A note to any 0Ls who may be reading: xeoh's method works if you work it. But you will sacrifice a lot in the process. The decision is yours.

I know logically everyone at the registrar's office is probably at home and won't be back in til Monday, but I won't be able to help but check at least a couple times tomorrow and Sunday. Monday my head will probably explode when the rest finally post, regardless of what they are.mbw wrote:Seriously, WTF?
