I just got dinged by a firm from the boondocks that only 4 people at my school chose to interview with (most other firms had like 14-20). When I saw that letter, I pretty much just thought stick a fork in me. My upcoming CB is giving me a lifeline of hope, but man, that one stung. I don't get it man. I did so many mock interviews and people said I was personable. My resume is not amazing, but not terrible. I felt pretty good during the screens and made good conversation. Is it because I have no ties to this part of the state? I wish I knew what I was doing wrong.

Stupid boondocks firm. I am glaring at them on your behalf.ManoftheHour wrote:I just got dinged by a firm from the boondocks that only 4 people at my school chose to interview with (most other firms had like 14-20). Second day of torts:
In class, I couldn't focus on the lecture bc I kept thinking about if law school is right for me (I do want to be a lawyer, but I'm finding that the experience of LS sucks). I sit in the back, and I can see other people's computer screens where they have two documents opened: One was an old outline and other other one was a full-blown case brief (procedural history, FIRAC, disposition, parties). The professor asks for facts (not included in the book) of squib cases, and people raise their hands to answer them. Everyone sounds so smart. I feel like I'm going end up in the bottom 1/4 of the class for like for the entire second half of the lecture & couldn't concentrate. Am I doing 1L wrong? Should I be briefing squib cases?

There is no way to tell what grades people are going to get based on how they prepare for class. If you see something that seems like it would help you learn, tho, give it a try and see if it works for you. The most important thing the first half of the semester is just to get comfortable enough with the material in a broad sense that you aren't scared away from doing practice tests. Everything will be okay.blacksand wrote:Second day of torts:

Re: TheSeaLocust's 1L Anxiety Meditation Retreat & Spa
I saw ONE person at OCI who was a person that talked a lot in class. My class #1 never spoke. Seriously no one expected it was him. I mean when he was called on, he gave an intelligent answer, but he'd never raise his hand. I never spoke unless called on. Most people in my section that spoke a lot didn't even bother showing up or had like 2 or 3 interviews only. There were people that never spoke in class that had like 20+ OCI interviews because of stellar grades. Don't worry, you're fine.blacksand wrote:Second day of torts:

I'm actually enjoying my classes and profs thus far but I just don't know if I can handle the people in this profession or in lawl school. seriously.

Echoing everybody else, but nothing to worry about. Almost everything that happens in class is just stupid hazing. The people grinding it out on case briefs are wasting their time. Prep for the exam (check the TLS guides for tips and efficient strategies) but don't get caught up in the arms race.blacksand wrote:Second day of torts:

You'll be fine - 1L is really designed to freak you out. Probably even more than it's designed to teach you, well... anything.
Yeah, the people in the profession suck. There's no getting around that :/acr wrote:I'm actually enjoying my classes and profs thus far but I just don't know if I can handle the people in this profession or in lawl school. seriously.

So much this. Law school can get really stressful, so make sure you spend time on you when you can.foundingfather wrote:if you guys need to take an afternoon or a day or two off, do it. especially if you feel like you're getting burned out

def treat yoself every once in a while. you deserve it, you've made it this far
also, p.s.: there will always be something you should be working on. as I understand it, it's just part of the profession. you still need to treat yoself
it will still be there when you get back (unless you have looming deadlines or something—you should probably meet those)

Re: TheSeaLocust's 1L Anxiety Meditation Retreat & Spa
I was not myself during my CB. I'm so disappointed in myself. I let the pressure get to me. I was so aggressive to get my questions through instead of relaxing and making good conversation like I normally do during interviews. I let all the disappointments from the dings during the screens get to me. What the hell is wrong with me? I got the CB, should have just relaxed and do the same thing again. Interviewed with the same people too. My rejection letter will probably be sent by the secretary next week. The Vale of Tears looms.
I suck.

Calm down. I'm sure you did fine. People always remember the bad parts of interviews.ManoftheHour wrote:I was not myself during my CB. I'm so disappointed in myself. I let the pressure get to me.
