Today I shat in a not-so-nearby graduate division's bathroom just for the hell of it. They had National Geographic magazines sitting on a nice (and clean) toilet-side table for perusal, which I also enjoyed. It is one of those individual style restrooms that offers complete isolation with cleanliness. Re: does anyone else love law school
The nearby medical school (which has a gym in the basement that I want to use) has amazing bathrooms and showers. Like, five star bathrooms that make me feel more comfortable than my own at home. I am envious. Actually, the medical school has everything better than we do at the law school. Goes to show who society really appreciates... Their tuition is virtually identical to ours, but their education costs more to provide, and they have really nice shitters. Life ain't fair.BackToTheOldHouse wrote:Today I shat in a not-so-nearby graduate division's bathroom just for the hell of it. Back to the original question: I adore law school. I loved every single one of our required 1L classes, up to and including property and contracts. I love my classmates, who are the most brilliant people with whom I have ever had the privilege to share a classroom, and my professors are almost all fantastic lecturers who also know how to get a great discussion going. OP, you are not alone, and as a rising 2L, I can tell you that the feeling does not wear off. Enjoy!

I didn't know there was an LSSB that distributed doses of MDMA to due paying members. Tell me, what sort of titillating sensations sweep over your body when you caress the spiral of your Bluebook?pleasepickme wrote:Back to the original question: I adore law school. This. Brilliant. Amazing. Love it.BackToTheOldHouse wrote:After a couple weeks, I think it's great. I have been out of the school game for a few years, so maybe that has influenced my opinion. I actually feel like the younger students (K-JD types) are missing out on the moment to a certain extent. To them this is just normal. Going to classes seems like a chore. Their professors are all lame. Their classmates don't dress hip enough for them. The subject matter is boorrriingg. Everything sucks. They're too cool for school.
But they're wrong. It is pretty much, dare I say this, a blessing to be able to spend ones time learning the law from amazingly accomplished and wonderfully unique professors (hopefully you have some of those where you are. If you don't think so, maybe it's you, not them, so check.).
Here's the typical law student schedule as I see it:
This is the gift you have been given, young 1L. Appreciate it appropriately. You are not too cool for school. Your professors and friends and assignments are not stupid. This is a time in your life you will always look back on. Be the person now that you hope to be in the future. Don't be a douche. Don't be cynical. Drink in the beauty of being a law school student in the greatest nation on earth (at least for now).
- Get up and put on clothes that you want to wear, for some this means completely comfortable, for others it means looking killer. Either way, no one is telling you what to do or expecting anything out of you.
- Eat a quick breakfast (or a slow one if you have the time).
- Grab a cup of coffee on borrowed money (or maybe mommy & daddy's, or maybe yours that you've earned and saved).
- Review your reading and notes from the prior day while enjoying your coffee and taking in the beautiful atmosphere you find yourself in. Notice the birds and trees. Definitely the trees and the way the light plays off of them, the dance that is occurring as the morning springs to life.
- Head to your first class and behold the engaging conversation that is spurned on by your professor. You take for granted what he/she is doing, but teaching/leading a class well takes a lot of preparation, dedication, and passion. You are the envious spectator of a continually unfolding show. The majority of the people alive right now will NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY you now have on a daily basis. Soak in the glory of the cold call, revel in the beauty of off-point rants, and hold dear the constant questioning of the gunner sitting next to you. Soon this chapter will end in your life.
- Your school day ends after attending classes most people will never attend. You feel great because you were prepared for the day and you benefited from the wisdom around you.
- You figure out what work you need to get done before your head hits the pillow, and you put off for tomorrow that which can wait. You complete that which is for today while chatting with a friend you've recently made at orientation. Who knows, this can be the start of a friendship that lasts your lifetime.
- You say your goodbyes and head for home, knowing full well that tomorrow morning you will have the opportunity to do it again. An opportunity that should not be squandered.
I need to be reminded sometimes.

Be a prosecutor for a city/county. Then you'll never have to research or write.Extension_Cord wrote:Man, my school must start early, Im ending my 4th week of 1L. So far loving it, Legal Writing is making me rethink my affection though, lol.crossarmant wrote:While it's only been two full weeks, half way through the third, I am enjoying the hell out of law school. Socially it's whatever, a little too clique-y and reminiscent of middle/high school with too many people wanting to go to the pubs every night. But academically and work-wise, I love it. After being out of school for a while, it's great to finally be back in classes, engaged in discussion, learning something with practical and applicable purposes to a profession rather than reading useless "rounding oneself" course materials. I even enjoy doing the nightly reading of cases and taking notes. It's just an engrossing topic and I find it all very enjoyable to work on. Let's hope that feeling persists for the rest of my life.
You're welcome.

Seriously love my no bullshit crim law professor. Read the case, tell me what's in it, tell me the law. Shut the fuck up about extraneous bullshit. He hates when people go off on gunner-ish tangents. Our gunner in class forgot to read due to some legitimate reason and he ripped out his soul in front of the class since he hates his gunner ways.

I like all of my teachers. Based on what I've been hearing, my section somehow drew all the best and most popular teachers at the school. Also, my LRW class is graded but not curved and I hear this teacher is a very lenient grader who basically wants everyone to get an A. So, I feel like the deck is stacked in my favor a little at this point.
