As a socially active homosexual, I must say that this thread is perhaps the gayest conversation I've seen in a long time. In a creepy, Patrick Bateman way.

For Highlighters I prefer: Bic Brite Liner --ImageRemoved-- http://www.business-supply.com/brite-li ... oduct.html
For Pens I prefer: Bic Clic Stic --ImageRemoved-- http://www.business-supply.com/clic-sti ... oduct.html
For Pencils I prefer: Zebra M-301 --ImageRemoved-- http://www.business-supply.com/dept_sel ... tId=119386
I really like Business-supply.com. They have cheap stuff and cheap shipping, plus they are based in Houston so shit shows up at my house in a day sometimes same day.

Not at Penn. You just have to accept it as a consequence of our bargain basement tuition costs

To be fair, its not super expensive to join the gym at Penn, its cheaper than most of the other gyms (though I joined a different one for convenience purposes).sperry wrote:jlnoa0915 wrote:I was under the impression that enrolling in the law school gave you access to the university's gym in most cases.livitup11 wrote:At the risk of taking this thread in yet another off-topic direction, a lot of you have been listing food/alcohol as necessities. Pretty much a standard at all serious law firms... says: I mean business in a colorful and vibrant sort of way. Face it, its intimidating when a student walks in with a book cover to cover with post it flags...

I went to a speech for a famous Image Consultant and you do not want to wear black. Wearing black gives off a sense of power, and the interviewer should have that power not you. Navy Blue is recommended as a good choice for interviews. If I ever clean out my spare room and find my old padfolio I will post my notes here.tiesto82 wrote:betasteve wrote:

Whoa whoa WHOA... How did I not know this about black suits?! I am a pretty fashion-conscious woman. I mean, really, fashion is a bit of a passion of mine. The fact that everyone on this board had such a consensus about black suits is freaking me out. Black is white, up is down!
Seriously though, I did NOT know this. My only suit is black. I chose it because black is so much easier to match with shirts than charcoal, and especially more than navy. God I feel like a loser now.
Does this anti-black sentiment apply equally to women's suits?
Different rule for women.
Yeah, doesn't apply to women, and I call BS on the 'no black for business' rule for men, too. No black suits with white shirts and plain ties is a good rule, but I can make a black suit look plenty good and not at all like a tuxedo with the right shirt and tie.
No black for business IS a rule in legal or other conservative professions. DOesn't matter how well you can wear it.
Funny. I wore a black suit to every one of the my callbacks and I have a V20 SA gig and am not at a T14. So I call bullshit as well

If you carry on your backpack with a laptop in it, the laptop has to have it's own separate section, and there can be nothing in there with it (including cords, fans, etc). I had my laptop sleeve in my backpack and took it out and they still made me take my laptop out because the cords were in with it.roadkilllaw wrote:Really?? Wow. How is a backpack more unsafe than a normal bag?gochrisgo wrote:Just don't try to get through airport security with a laptop in a backpack. They'll make you check it... no kidding. Any recommendations on a backpack or messenger bag? I'm looking at timbuk2 and chrome, anything else worth checking out?

The black suit rule isn't something some picky asshole is making up or exaggerating. It's a pretty well-known men's style standard. Black is hyper-formal - funerals, black tie events, and that's about it.
Flip through GQ or Esquire some time. You will never, ever, ever see a black suit modeled in those magazines.
I know it might seem arbitrary, but it's nothing to really get pissed off or indignant about. Just how it is.

Navy suits are for people who are boring and want to fit in, black suits are for people who want to look sharp. Trust me. I read GQ.
I direct to your attention to this article, from a highly regarded authority on men's suits.

Okay so: both of these lists suggest a recording device to record lectures. Do ya'll actually do this? If so, how do you use the recordings in your studying?gymboree wrote:Seemingly comprehensive list for 1L supplies here:

I there a way to have these things and not have to be blocked by the props when turning the page. I love/hate them because of that! Maybe one that has an angle to that the pages don't accidentally rip.

I noticed that too. I think there are several professors who already record their lectures and post them anyway. It would be nice if the mic were wireless so that you could have it there ... I wonder how rules are with assigned seats and requesting to sit in the front. I space out if I get too far backkoehn2 wrote:I am curious as well. Re: Necessities for Law School
You have to get permission to do it; many of them won't allow it. Either way, the question you have to ask yourself is whether you will have time to listen to the recording. I know of one person who does this, and frankly, I know I don't have the time to listen to a recording.koehn2 wrote:I am curious as well. If you decide you want to do this, it can be cheaper. If you have a built in mic on your computer, just use the notebook function in Word. It allows you to record audio. The quality won't be great, so you'll need to sit near the front.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
