Re: PANIC!! 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread - 2012
I think Stone encompasses a larger range now that the 1L curve was relaxed. Totally arbitrary, but if I had to guess it'd probably be top 35-40%.
3.33 median is as good a guess as we have, as far as I can tell. I could see it being slightly lower, but who knows.

It was, with the old curve. IIRC because of the new curve, it's closer to 40%jetissent wrote:Not sure but I thought Stone (3.41) was ~30%.

I think it's safe to say that, whether Stone is ~35%, or ~40%, it's a pretty good place to be come EIP.

Finally got my first grade. The period between reading on the FB group that it was out and actually checking was awful.

That's what happens when one law school drops a majority of its grades on a single day.
Wait till Monday evening, then UVA will blow this up.

UVA has class, so I assume they'll be there. LOL at the 1Ls if not.Bronck wrote:Your registrar gonna work on MLJ jr day?UVAIce wrote:That's what happens when one law school drops a majority of its grades on a single day.

i am terrible with numbers - based on probabilities could someone help me out with this...
last year, class of 250 students, top 5 percent was around 3.7
if this year's class has 200 students - what is the likely impact on gpa percentiles?

Last grade in was a little lower than expected, but overall I'm thrilled how this semester turned out. Good luck to everyone else today at CLS.
Also, to those who are disappointed, next semester counts a little bit more (14 graded credits v. 12 this semester), and I'm pretty sure our 1L electives are graded on the upper-class curve, so you have an opportunity to make up some ground.

If the distribution of grades is the same, why would it change? The number of people in the top 5 per cent would change but I don't think the percentage itself would.nucky thompson wrote:i am terrible with numbers - based on probabilities could someone help me out with this...

Straight B+s
My school's curve is harsh so I'm likely between top 15% and 10% even with a 3.333
Very pleased except for getting a B+ in LRW. Hopefully potential employers will be too.
Thanks to all for help and guidance

Grats on your overall grades! Thanks, still waiting for the last exam number to pop up....otnemem wrote:Last grade in was a little lower than expected, but overall I'm thrilled how this semester turned out. Good luck to everyone else today at CLS.

Yeah, that's true. I'm sure I'm going to be doing calculations once I get my last grade to see different potential outcomes lol.

i think the grading wait confirms being a professor is the best legal job in the world. these guys can easily, if they wanted to start a company or 2 while teaching simultaneously so they aren't leaving money on the table.

Like I said, I am bad with numbers - but the thinking is this - The curve/distribution per class remains the same....but if there are 50 less students in the class, then the liklihood that a student gets A's in every class seems like it would go down as well.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
