Re: OFFICIAL 1L Exam Prep & Motivation Thread (CSWS)
As much as some of the stuff on this thread may be useful, keep in mind that you are not being tested on what the law actually is. You are being tested on what your professor thinks the law is, and how (s)he understands it. So keep in mind that whatever you read here, or in commercial outlines or hornbooks, may or may not be how the professor understands it so it may or may not be the correct answer on the test. (if your prof wrote the hornbook, obviously it's a different story).
So yea, tailor your studying and outlines to how your professor understands it. My civpro teacher, for example, had a very "idiosyncratic" understanding of the Erie doctrine. Guess which will get you a higher grade on the final, regurgitating the teacher's understanding of Erie, or the hornbook's?
Cheers, best of luck, you gots this, etc etc.

Good luck, TEAM. ALL MY SOLDIERS, REV IT UP. HIT THE GRINDSTONE. THESE 14-15 HOUR DAYS MAKE ME SALIVATE, BAYBA-BABAY.
Up to ~5000 words per 4 hours. Could be worse. Question, I also have a 1500 word 4 hour test. Is it credited to pound through it and edit it, or outline in an organized fashion then write?

4 hours is enough time to outline it, write it, edit it and take it out to a movie afterward.LetsGoLAW wrote:Good luck, TEAM. ALL MY SOLDIERS, REV IT UP. HIT THE GRINDSTONE. THESE 14-15 HOUR DAYS MAKE ME SALIVATE, BAYBA-BABAY.

If I'm taking out 600-700 words per 25-30 minutes of straight up analysis, is that good enough for an A on a 4 hour exam? 5k-6.5k words total is probable.

Oh c'mon. It depends on what the words say. If you write "I have no idea what I'm doing" for 5,000 words then no, it's not enough for an A. If you have good analysis and you get a lot of points during those 5,000 words then maybe it will be.noleknight16 wrote:If I'm taking out 600-700 words per 25-30 minutes of straight up analysis, is that good enough for an A on a 4 hour exam? 5k-6.5k words total is probable.
I get that you guys want to make sure that you do everything you can to get a good grade but this focus on word count is getting ridiculous, IMO.

Re: OFFICIAL 1L Exam Prep & Motivation Thread (CSWS)
First final is Thursday - Crim Law. Professor has very specific exams wherein he spots issues for us and we have to analyze the issues the questions flag as important.
He's only given us one past exam, which blows. Anyone else think my best bet is just to talk it over with him and then write the same exam multiple times to practice my analysis and exam-writing? It seems like issue spotting doesn't matter for this exam, so will just writing the same exam multiple times and trying to improve quality of analysis each time help prepare me?

Being sick is making studying way more difficult.
About to head to a torts review session. Wrecked the hypo we are going to go over (or at least I think I did). Felt really on point and covered a lot of issues/analysis.

Sup bros, just want to say I just finished my Torts exam and I FEEL AWESOME about it.
My pneumonia mostly didn't bother me. Not too much coughing.
Applied fact to law, again and again and again. Brought forward the issues, arguments, counter arguments and brief conclusions. Properly organized.
I did everything I could and that's all I could ask for.
TWO MORE TO GO. If I pull off top 5% like I want despite pneumonia I proclaim myself a legend.

Trying to get my contracts outline and attack outline 100% done tonight (well, I'l still make some edits as I study more, but I shouldn't have any new content to add), and my torts outlines 99% done. Will be a good feeling if I can haha.

Checking in. Tired, hungry. Got a good 3 hours in so far. Another 7 to go. Fucking loving it. Soldering on like a mother fucker. Take me down, baby, take me down.
Finishing supplemental readings for clarity, finishing my 1 page attack, typing it out twice, four 1-page hypos. LET'S GO!

Agreed. (minus the fact that I sometimes think we are gangsters with all the profanity, lol)gaud wrote:LGL, you do this thread a lot of good and I appreciate your work.
Just did an exam for 70 mins, 2900 words. Sometimes I am not able to get to all the elements of a rule, because I try to spend extra analysis time on some of the other elements. I think this is fine, but those elements I don't get to hit but are big issues are points forever gone.
If anyone wants to read it to check if my analysis is good, lemme know. Gracias & keep strong team, part of law school is testing us under pressure, lets sure em that we love this pressure like a pressure cooker on a sunday afternoon.
And good job JSA! I hope your momentum continues into your other exams.

Raiden FWIW I've heard from two profs now that it's better to hit all the issues with less analysis than it is to go in depth on fewer issues.
According to my profs, there are only so many points available per issue, most of which you get just from spotting and giving a decent analysis.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
