Re: 1L Exam Prep and Motivation Thread
How is it weighted? 50/50? I was talking to someone yesterday about something like this, and I thought he had a good point when he suggested going after the MC first, because at the least the "issue" is right there in front of you. Points for the taking, basically. On the issue spotter, you could waste time talking about things that aren't getting you points, so to speak. Better to make sure your time is spent as effectively and efficiently as possible. Just don't let yourself go over time very much, if it all, on the MC questions, especially if the issue spotter is worth just as much.dsap45 wrote:3 hour civ pro exam tomorrow with 25 tricky MC questions and 1 long issue spotter. which to attack first?

Re: 1L Exam Prep and Motivation Thread
If they are weighted equally- and the issue spotter is anything like the one I had yesterday, I'd do the MC first. Not only will it start you off thinking about issues and all the subjects you learned before you have to apply them to fact-but your issue spotter will probably contain more issues than can possibly be covered in 3 hours let alone 3 hours-25 multiple choice questions. I think it'd be hard to pull away from the essay to go back into multiple choice and try to think clearly about something besides the issues you still need to talk about...dsap45 wrote:3 hour civ pro exam tomorrow with 25 tricky MC questions and 1 long issue spotter. which to attack first?

Also, professors who like to think about these things in a very theoretically sense ("is proximate cause really necessary for negligence?" "does Posner's view on reasonable care effectually eliminate the need for strict liability for dangerous activities?" "with IIED, is there still a need for false imprisonment?") make this class a lot harder than it should be.
are those exam questions? that's horrible!

Re: 1L Exam Prep and Motivation Thread
Anecdotal, but I read somewhere on TLS that on a 50/50 weighted test, a guy spent 1/3 of the time on the MC and 2/3 on the issue spotter and just blew everyone else away because he dominated the issue spotter w/ the extra half hour. Seems like it'd be the most effective strategy; there are only so many points you can get from the MC, while there are always more issues to find.dsap45 wrote:3 hour civ pro exam tomorrow with 25 tricky MC questions and 1 long issue spotter. which to attack first?

Heading into Civil Procedure, my first final as a 2L! (No, I didn't fail anything, lol. Evening to day switch!)
Everyone needs a pre-exam song, and this one brought me luck on the first one I ever took.

or the law school version, as performed by my classmates:

(They were singing about our writing competition, btw, hence the packets and references to sources!)
<3 and luck to all!

And just a tip FYI-- do NOT analyze exam answers with your classmates, no matter how drunk you get tonight! It's very possible to get an A without spotting many of the things they spotted, and vice versa on their part. This will only make you want to /self from now until mid January.

I had 52 MC questions (2.5 hrs), an hour-long issue spotter, and a half hour short answer. It made me want to kill myself and I'm now trying to forget that class ever existed.dsap45 wrote:3 hour civ pro exam tomorrow with 25 tricky MC questions and 1 long issue spotter. which to attack first?
Anyway, in my class at least they recommended starting with the MC questions. *shrug* It worked for me, because I did the MC questions, then the others, and then had time to go back and review the MC questions a second time.

Property: 4 hours-closed book
60 MC and a 2 hour essay (rec: 6000 word)
...oh and I almost forgot, if you get a MC wrong its counts as -1/3.

Re: 1L Exam Prep and Motivation Thread
6,000 words is indeed impressive, but do not sweat it if you wrote MUCH less. I have gotten As in classes where I had three hours to write and did not hit 3,500 words. If you can be clear and concise, your prof will respect it. (This is designed to reassure everyone else who types slowly. 80+ WPM is not necessary to kick ass on an exam. I will not deny that it helps, and most of my friends who are high achievers type very quickly, but this is a correlation/causation issue. I worried a ton as a 1L because TLS made it seem like I (with my 45 wpm on a good day typing skills) was in huge trouble, but it is very possible to learn how to make the words count.servinDizzert wrote:Property: 4 hours-closed book

I will be so glad when I am done with my last exam.
on a side note, I've now decided not to even look at torts until I am done with my civ pro exam on the 15th--torts is 6 days later on the 21st. smart or stupid decision?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
