To take this further, one might retort that
law exams are "game time" and
law school is the "training."
Ah, but is it? That's the assumption of most, and, as it happens, it's an assumption that is, well, wrong. How do we know? Because most law students do far far worse than they've ever done before, and are less sure than ever before why.
Is law school the game, or is it just a game, or will the game be you (as in the animal that gets eaten).
I can only tell you what will happen, which can be confirmed by any 3L: exactly one-half of you will end up in the bottom 50%; mere "study" will not determine who's in which pool; your job prospects will be almost completely tied to how well you do in first year; those impending loans will make this a very serious game indeed; and the game, such as it is, is very, very different from any you've played before.
There are secretly many who hope that this conventional "wisdom" plays on, because that makes any who follow it much more likely to be in the bottom half, and thus help in the ever-fun grade curve. This is, of course, inconceivable to you now, as you've always been the best. Right?
