My strategy:
I'm one of the people who over studies. I used Themis both times and did over 200 practice questions each time. Whenever I got a question wrong, I'd write a sentence about the correct rule in a word document. Then I'd read through the Themis handout and my rule statements a couple times a day. By test day my document was about 4-5 pages long. Good luck in November.
Why did you write it twice?

I took it in March 2014 before graduating that May. I then took and passed the bar that summer. This summer I decided to take another bar exam, but that state wouldn't accept my MPRE score (they only accept scores w/in the past 12 months), so I had to retake it two weeks after the bar.

I don't think anyone is shocked you can do well by studying hard. I think the question is how little can you do.
My response is now "do everything once at least." Two days is more than enough time to prep.

Got 111 yaaaaaaaaaaas.
For anyone who's failed, this was my third time taking it, after getting 77 the first time, and a goddamn 84 the second time. The second time was super upsetting considering I was a point away from passing, and taking it a third time 2 weeks after the July bar definitely wasn't fun. Anyone who says this is a bullshit test and only studied for a couple of hours and passed is either lying or extremely lucky, because this test can be super tricky for anyone, and I consider myself a decent test taker. So just watch the Barbri lecture and take a ton of practice exams (I found that Barbri and Themis were good) and you'll do more than enough to pass. I even made an outline this past time around to really hammer in the rules, so if anyone who has to take it again wants it, PM me and I'll be happy to provide it

it is definitely not a lie that this is passable on next to no studying (and not giving a damn). I took the July bar and only remembered I still needed to take the MPRE the Thursday before. On Friday I watched the Themis lecture on double speed and did maybe 30 practice questions. Got a 95 and finished the test in just over an hour. I'm no genius.

I'm so lucky to post on the same thread with so many geniuses !!!!!!
I failed the MPRE in march (got 79 ) and I just passed it with a score of 106 after taking 7 practices tests of 60 questions + maybe 50 other practices questions. I'm so relieved there are some future attorneys out there that are much more intelligent than I am in order to raise the level of the profession phewwwwww
I still don't know why I took the Bar exam in july since I failed the MPRE once, I 'll probably never have the intelligent level required to become an attorney, such a waste of time and money.

Salty. Look, no one is saying it takes a genius to pass this or that you're a moron with no prospects if you fail once or even a couple times. I was responding to the above poster's statement that anyone who says they passed without preparation is a liar or just lucky. That just aint true.

I pretty much did the same thing as this person^. I was stressed about the test b/c when I took PR the Prof was very clear his approach was that it wasn't going to be an "MPRE prep class," & he wasn't kidding. The class never covered firms, fee-splitting, judicial ethics, none of that. Since I had to learn all of that from scratch, I may have overdone it with the studying (but I passed in all jurisdictions). I did the same thing with the rules-in-the-word-doc. FWIW, I remember that the August administration had a lot of questions with issues taken from the Comments. Best of luck to everyone!
(This test is not easy, DGAF if some tool says otherwise).

It is true the exam is not hard (whatever that means), but it's not as easy as most people claim, and I feel like the exam has become more difficult over the years, testing nuances with near-identical answers etc . Sure, you could walk into the exam cold and luck out (or be a genius, whatever), but why take the chance? It's annoying to have to take it again. Just study for a week and pass. The studying required to pass is very minimal (roughly 1 week- 2 hours a day - of dedicated studying at most), especially when compared with the studying required for the bar exam.
I feel all the "don't-study-everyone-passes" advice is not particularly helpful and counter-productive. Some very smart people do fail. And I mean, what's the harm in studying two hours a day for a week?
I used barbri and watched the video. I then used the barbri app and read it over and over again. I was also coming off the bar exam high. Scored a 136 scaled. Most definitely overkill, but it only took 12-14 hours spread over a week.

Got a 103 on the August MPRE. Glad to be done with it. To anyone having to take it again - best of luck!
First I watched the Barbri lecture video, then I did one practice test (four of them) from Tues-Fri before the test and went over my incorrect answers. I also found the mini outline (NOT THE ONE YOU FILL OUT WITH THE VIDEO) to be the most helpful as it covers things the video lecture leaves out, but doesn't delve into unnecessary detail.

Nice. Been trying a different approach. Hope that this time it will work. Been averaging higher than I did in the previous practice exams, so that is a little better.

A lot of people ask how to study for this or how much to study and the answers fluctuate between two extremes: 1) don't study it at all and if you can't pass without studying, you don't deserve to be a lawyer, and 2) take this seriously, read the entire BarBri book, watch the lecture 4 times, and do every practice question you can get your hands on while memorizing the Model Rules. Really it's somewhere in the middle, so you just need to do what works for you. I personally learn well from practice questions, so I did a lot of those and looked over the mini-outline that BarBri provides. I started to watch the lecture, but I just couldn't stay focused on it at the time and I know that I generally don't learn well from lectures so I skipped it. I passed by well more than enough for every jurisdiction.
Bottom line: If you're worried about it and have the time to study, put a little effort into it, but if you take early enough in law school and you are swamped, you can always retake!

I always ignore the individuals who state that 'if you can't pass without studying you don't deserve to become a lawyer nonsense' because it's just a moronic way to put others down and brag about themselves and noone deserves that. I don't have time for them and I definitly don't have time to hear that egotistical, braggadocios nonsense. If those guys can pass the mpre without studying, good for them. That's not me, and thats definitely not a lot of other people. I don't take tests without studying. Period. Simple as that. If I hadn't studied and I had taken the MPRE I would have done much worse than I had already done. This is something that is entirely dependent on the individual and how well they know themselves. On the other hand, I do admit the overstudying thing is an extreme, but I do nonetheless have to study for it regardless.
Thank you for your advice UncfrozenCaveman I do greatly appreciate your input. I am continuing the practice questions. Lecutres are very boring to me and very annoying to follow in my opinon but I will try and watch some.

I don't think I could have passed without reviewing. Some of the questions are counter intuitive.

TCR. I got a puppy the week I took it and didn't study. Passed it with five points to spare. This is one of the few times in my life where I aimed low and figured I could waste another Saturday if I needed to. Took the test super-fast (because I could narrow most questions down to two answers, then I just guessed). Staring at the questions harder was not going to help--I didn't know the answers.
Also, I didn't take Prof Resp. my 2L year, so i was taking the test largely cold, aside from listening to Sub & Substance and half of BarBri lectures.

That may have worked for you and the quoted user, but it will not work for everyone. Stating that "TCR" is barely studying and "aiming low" is ignorant. Everyone is not built the same.

It says 'within 5 weeks' so my guess is close to that mark. Looks like it came sometime around the 4 week mark several years ago - best I could find.
