Re: Share 1L Gunner Stories
thats kind of abnormal. i think just wanting to make the most money makes me a bad person. who cares if your classmates think you're smart?
don't you think it's because the gunners want to impress the professor? i mean do they really think they're going to attract the other gender by stating a really awesome opinion on a case? and you would have to have the psychology of a 12 yr old to excommunicate your class just to prove your smart. it seems very, "mommy, mommy, look what i can do." a multiple divorce case in training.
maybe i'm a bad person, but when i'm in law school all i want to do is study my butt off, learn how to make a boatload of $ and hopefully be able to help a playa or two. i don't care whether people think i'm intelligent or impaired as long as i'm throwing them dolla, dolla, dolla bills, and fighting for what i believe in while i'm making dolla, dolla, dolla bills.

Its all of it combined. They want to impress the professor and psych out their fellow students.justadude55 wrote:thats kind of abnormal. i think just wanting to make the most money makes me a bad person. who cares if your classmates think you're smart?

The underlined is a key "gunner" trait.
In regards to the bolded, its hard to do both at the same time, although I commend you if you manage to accomplish it!

Just to toss in my two cents:
Two girls in class feel (who sit together) feel that they need to constantly chew gum with their mouths open while starting each comment like this, "Well I think..."
Over, and over, and over again in both contracts in torts (I'm going part time). Look girls, it's 7:45, I want to get home sometime soon and the only oppinion I care about is the professors, not yours.

You are missing the big picture. They are probably freaks.thwalls wrote:Just to toss in my two cents:

It's okay, I'm married so I like to live vicariously through others on messageboards. And in real-life dungeons but that is another story (that I just made up).thwalls wrote:I'm married so their possible freakyness is wasted on me.rynabrius wrote:You are missing the big picture. It's amazing how tons of opportunities to crush it present themselves the second you put that ring on.

Then how do you explain this photo of a young Richard Epstein?Bildungsroman wrote:vamedic03 wrote: IT DETRACTS FROM THE CLASS AND HARMS OTHER'S UNDERSTANDING.
I could tell you were serious here because you used all capital letters.
I think in law school I will continue my policy of recognizing that professors are not an elite class of warlocks with perfect knowledge and perfect instruction, and will therefore continue to ask questions for my own clarification. If I'm paying $200,000 for these 3 years I'm not going to let people throwing the "gunner" label around keep me from being engaged in my education.

Dear greasy-haired gunner:
You have a right to ask excessive questions and make more-than-necessary comments, but PLEASE stop arguing with the civ pro professor about points that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. And please don't keep talking when he's trying to stop you and get the class back on track. Srsly.

Not sure if the gunners here are going stealth to begin, but I haven't seen anything that would reek of "gunner" thus far in the few class sessions I have had.

how bout when a fellow 1L gets drunk, the first thing he makes sure to work into any conversation is how he "got into CLS, just to prove to his naysaying professor that he could!"
should i watch out for that dbag?

This is the woooorst. I realize you absolutely must let everyone know how smart and lawyerly you are, but when the professor is hinting that you need to shut up, you should probably oblige.sibley wrote:And please don't keep talking when he's trying to stop you and get the class back on track. Re: Share 1L Gunner Stories
So far no serious gunners in my section (just a few awkward kids) but after every class, certain students literally surround the profs and won't let them leave. I've seen profs getting backed into corners, followed around the classroom; I feel so bad for them. (Though I'm glad the questions aren't being asked on my time.) Haven't these people heard of office hours?

my favorite gunner so far is the guy who took notes on the names and hobbies of our entire section during orientation introductions. filled up two pages of his legal pad. yup.

that's actually kind of nice. definitely not someone i'd want to get a beer with, but the fact he went out of his way to remember defining personality traits of the entire section is exceptionally professional. it does take the "friends for the sake of being friends" out of law school, but was that ever there to begin with?manbearwig wrote:That's not creepy as hell...
