Tulane Class of 2014
Didn't see a thread for this yet, so thought I'd say hello!
When does everyone plan to hunt for housing?

Re: Tulane Class of 2014
I'd really like to, but I'm tied up in Missouri until late May at the earliest. I've been looking around online to get a feel for what rent is like in which neighborhoods, but I know that I really need to see the place before I rent it. Hoping to get down there late May/early June!mcubberly wrote:Start now (!!!!!!!)ect88 wrote:Didn't see a thread for this yet, so thought I'd say hello!

All the student housing leasing is going on now. Most student apartments around here have leases for 12mo starting June 1. It is definitely the standard for places around here. I'm sure there are some without that (people move at all kinds of times) but everyone (I'm an undergad student here) I know living off campus has June starting leases. It may be slimmer pickings for different dates, but I'm sure you can find something cool. Having a car and not having to be within walking distance changes that too.ect88 wrote:I'd really like to, but I'm tied up in Missouri until late May at the earliest. Best way to figure it out is by walking around. Craigslist isn't bad either.ect88 wrote:I'd really like to, but I'm tied up in Missouri until late May at the earliest. Hi everybody! I'm entering Tulane in the fall as well and I live in Louisiana now. Housing in the Uptown area (within a mile of the university) currently has lots of June leases opening up now. July and August leases typically get posted in May once the students let their landlords know future plans.
I've always had a fine time getting housing through Craigslist, and most folks posting ads there are career landlords who will certainly work with you to secure one of their other properties. I have friends that have been successful in dealing with Riverlake Properties, an exclusively Uptown rental agency:

Here are the google reviews of Riverlake Properties...

I looked at some of their places and wasn't impressed. I wouldn't sign a lease before very carefully looking at what you're going to get.

I think I'm going down sometime in the next couple weeks to find housing… This website has proven to be helpful: padmapper.com

Will my fellow New Yorkers be attending the alumni event with the Dean next Wednesday, April 27th at the Cornell Club? I am now officially excited about this whole law school thing

What did everyone, anyone, happen to score on the LSAT? I'm from New Orleans and had credentials I thought would definitely get me accepted. Guess not.

And if you're looking at places for rent, run the street and block number by me or someone else from here, and we'll let you know if it's safe. I don't know if you'll find any other locals in Tulane's forum, though.

Is early June too late to find good housing near campus? Also, would getting into contact with a realtor in the area be beneficial? Since I know nothing of the neighborhoods and housing market...

If money is not an issue for high rent, petty crime such as occasional theft is not an issue, but you want to be close to campus, then look in the general vicinity of the school; however, run it by someone familiar with the area because a nice area quickly becomes unadulterated Hell in as little as 2 blocks.Brews_7 wrote:Is early June too late to find good housing near campus? If you have a parking permit and don't mind driving 3-6 miles, you can find more reasonable rent in a safe area that people from out of town might consider boring.
And don't listen to my previous post. Avoid places like Hollygrove and the Dirty 17th, except the part of the 17th in Lakeview.

+1. It can definitely be block-by-block here. I'm here for a while longer, but I'm graduating undergrad.TheArtfulDodger wrote:And if you're looking at places for rent, run the street and block number by me or someone else from here, and we'll let you know if it's safe. I will most likely be here in the fall. No clue where to live. Never been to New Orleans, and I don't have time to visit until after I graduate. So I will be there late May/early June. But I am SOOOO excited.

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be going to Tulane this fall! I was reading about housing and just wondering if people were going to be living alone or trying to find a roomate? I am debating what to do myself. Definitely need to start looking for a place, I will probably be heading back end of this month. Thanks!

Anyone who has questions about housing/good neighboorhoods, or wants any other information about student housing, stuff to do around campus, and/or coming to visit, feel free to PM me. I've been at Tulane for the last four years, two of them on my own and off campus, and I'll be here all summer as I get ready for 1L.
Damn does it feel good to say 1L.

Hey Guys. I posted this over on the FBook page, but we've got a Fantasy Football league up and going. I paid the fee already for Sportsline.com premium league and it'll be 12.49 per person for the entry. Additional potential "nonmonetary"
wagers to be discussed via email. PM me your email and I'll send you the league invite. Preliminary draft date is set for one evening during orientation when we have a free night. 6 of 12 spots taken. First 6 responses are in.
