I was recently admitted, but I live in and grew up in Charlottesville. The hiking and canoeing is fantastic. (My canoe is named Olive Oil) Any hikers who haven't should check out Black Rock.

When I typed this in google I got a ton of hits for the investment company...which was also my initial thought when I saw "black rock" lol. Seriously though, this looks awesome. Can't wait to get out there.
Here's a link for those interested. Maybe OP can correct if this isn't what they were referring to --LinkRemoved--

Re: UVA Class of 2014
For those interested in any job related news. I had a 1L mock interview with a D.C. firm today. The interviewer was a hiring partner for the firm and said this:
"The job market is going to be infinitely better for your class than the 3Ls and the recent graduates. Firms panicked when the economy went downhill, and now that things are picking back up they are realizing that they don't have enough lawyers to handle all the work. Apply aggressively to firms, for both 1L summer and 2L OCI, there will be plenty of opportunities."
It would seem things are getting better.

The football tailgaiting scene is very aggressive. While the only game i've attended was the second half of UVA-Miami (yes i did rush the field), we have had 3 all day tailgates, which have ranged from fun to amazingly awesome.2014 wrote:Fortunately a good football team is not necessary for a good tailgatepjo wrote:Aside from softball, does anyone know what else is popular to do in Charlottesville? Plenty of hiking and biking in C'Ville though. You are literally a 10 minute drive from being in pretty gorgeous countryside at any given point in town. You have to drive a bit to get to bodies of water, but tubing on the James river as mentioned is a pretty fun thing to do.

That's encouraging. Hopefully for us they don't overhire c/o 2013, then have a double dip recession hit leading to c/o 2014 getting pwned.jawsthegreat wrote:

I went to the Maryland game somewhere in between the 3rd and 4th quarters and there were several groups who weren't even bothering with the game (which was competitive at that point) they were just chilling in the parking lot getting drunk. Gotta love Saturdays.jawsthegreat wrote:The football tailgaiting scene is very aggressive. College baseball = a lot more fun than pro baseball. The players play harder, they hit more homeruns, the fans get more drunk and heckle the players a lot more. It's great.AssumptionRequired wrote:Baseball is boring to watch. Exception: championship/world series gamestommynobody wrote:The UVA baseball team deserves a little love. Charlottesville has a pretty good music scene as well... Jefferson theatre, charlottesville pavillion, and JPJ (among others I'm sure) consistently get good acts

+1. I have to admit that recently I calculated my loan repayment and when I think about it my stomach gets tied in knots. This makes me feel a little better though, especially knowing that I'm interested in a secondary market where very few T14 grads apply.McDeere wrote:This makes me feel even better about my ED acceptancejawsthegreat wrote:For those interested in any job related news. To Jaws: When he said "apply agressively" did he mean the quantity of firms or quality (i.e. V25 instead of V50?)

Homeruns.... yea its called not having to use wood bats. But pro equals better defense (though better pitching makes it boring) abd steroids! which is always exciting lol either way i would watch football/lax anytime before i would sit through a baseball gametommynobody wrote:College baseball = a lot more fun than pro baseball. Congrats to all the new acceptances. Jaws, thanks for passing along that anecdote, it would be great to be part of the first class to graduate post-ITE, or at least the beginning of the end of ITE.

I said thats always exciting, like its one of the few good things about the most boring sport to watch (well if you dont include golf and soccer)sundance95 wrote:You don't like juiced players so you watch...football?AssumptionRequired wrote: Homeruns.... yea its called not having to use wood bats. Re: UVA Class of 2014
would it make more sense for me to apply RD before thanksgiving or wait to hear back from other schools to apply ED? i'm applying off a fee waiver, but not above both medians. (please don't quote my question if i need to delete it later.)

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I'm of the mindset that the answer to that question depends on how badly you want to go to those other schools. But I get the sense that your question is primarily focused on whether it hurts your chances or not to wait until after Thanksgiving to ED - I would say no based on my personal experience, but I can't say with confidence whether or not mine is the common experience.

Hi guys!
I didn't want to sift through 40 pages of posts.. but I was wondering if anyone's brought up the housing topic? I know it's still early but us EDers have a lot of time on our hands and not much to think about except upcoming stuff!
Is there a good page where 1Ls, 2Ls etc talk about their housing experiences or give advice? Or is there a page/discussion out there somewhere with general housing info?
