Yes, I just got mine in an email- but I sent one check with both deposits and the email said "thank you for your second deposit"

I got an email confirmation, but also it showed up in a new section on Agora. It took awhile to get the deposit confirmation, but I did get one and have only sent in my first deposit.

I started apartment hunting this weekend! I am on the Vandy WL, but will most likely withdraw because the thought of attending at sticker (most likely outcome if I even got off) would not be appealing when I have money at BC.

Cornell at sticker vs. BC w/ $$$ would be a very hard decision for me. I think BC w/ $$$ has a slight edge

So, I was in Boson last weekend and looked at 20+ apartments in Brighton, Allston, and Brookline. Honestly, I only found 3-4 that I would even consider living in (most had at least one significant negative--dirty, tiny bedrooms, bad location, etc.). I found one place in Brighton that is about 2.5 miles from the law campus and about a 4 minute walk to the Sutherland T stop (10 minute walk to the Chiswick shuttle). It was $2900/month and I negotiated with the landlord to get 3 parking included and the fee cut down by 70%. 4 beds, 2 bath, duplex, good condition, back deck. Would I be dumb to not take this place? I'm trying to figure out if I should jump on it or if I should wait and visit again in a few weeks.

Also, if you'd like my impressions of what I looked at, feel free to ask! I have decided that I definitely want to be in Brighton. I plan to either drive or bike to school every day.

Honestly, I'd pick BC with $$$ over the lower half of the T14 at sticker...it totally outperforms its rank. I think your intuition is right.

I haven't made a decision on a place yet. I might wait another few weeks to look at more places.

You don't absolutely need a car, but from what I've heard, it raises your quality of life (quicker commute, driving to grocery store, quick trips to the city, etc.). If you're near the B line and BC Shuttle, commuting via public transportation is definitely doable. I'm looking for a spot where I can bike/drive to campus on nice days and take the shuttle/T when the snow if too much. I really like the area near Comm Ave / Chiswick Road.

For those who actually attend BC Law, please correct me if anything I said is off. I went to school for undergrad in the area, so I'm speaking from that experience.

The only *issue* I see with that location is that you are going to be limited to the B line compared to living somewhere between the B line (Comm Ave) and the C line (Beacon St). It will be a bit of a further walk to the C line if you want to get downtown quickly (and coming from Chestnuthill Ave or Chiswick on the B line will take your 45+ min). I think the area that is north (I believe it is north) of Comm Ave is generally better if you have a car, but that area (in my experience) was much more undergrad heavy than spots slightly further out on the B line/C line (I'm thinking Washington Street and the area further into Boston/Brookline).

Also, I don't think there are many amenities in that area - e.g., the closest restaurants will be in Cleveland Circle (and those restaurants aren't all that attractive in my opinion), there aren't any gyms located less than a 10 minute walk away, etc...

It's about a 10 minute walk to Brighton Center and a 12 minute walk to Cleveland Circle. Do you think that would be a good spot for a first year student? Location, you should be fine. You'll likely find that you're relying on your car more than say if you lived somewhere between the B and C lines, but it is a good option. I am just more partial to the area between the B and C line because it offers better public transportation into the city proper. I also didn't have a car, so that influences my perspective.

Ultimately, if you've seen the place and you liked it, that is probably the best indicator. It isn't like its the only place you saw.

Unfortunately, heat and hot water are not included. The apartment did have a washer/dryer though. I'm thinking that heat/hot water/electricity will run 50-75 per person every month, so we're looking at around an $825/month deal. Maybe it would be smarter to wait it out another few weeks to shoot for something closer to 700. Of course, the parking is a huge plus because at least two of us will have our cars.

I looked at a few places on Cummings Road between the B and C lines and they were pretty gross. Is there a nice area that I should check out between the B and C lines?

You should ask the landlord what the average utilities run for the place. Any landlord that is decent will be able to provide that information to you (again, likely will change depending on the season, but there is no reason why the landlord shouldn't be able to give you a ballpark figure).

The main issue you're going to have is parking. Anything between B/C is likely not going to have included parking. However, if you are paying about 825/month, that means you should be able to find a place for about 700 per month and have 125 for a parking permit. Not sure if it is possible, but if you are not around during the summer you may not have to pay for the parking permit for those months, so it could be beneficial to look around even more.

My general sense is that from Washington Street inward towards Boston has some great places between the B and C line. I'm thinking the geographical area (if you connect the lines) from the B line Washington Street stop to B line Harvard Avenue stop to the Coolidge Corner C line stop to the Fairbanks C line stop. There are lots of single family/duplexes in this area - I have no idea on pricing, but that area of is infinitely better in my opinion. You will be within walking distance of Harvard Ave restaurants/bars and the decidedly more upscale Coolidge Corner. It is less of an undergrad vibe and more young professional/families. You may even find included parking, but not sure. The only drawback that I see is that it will take you slightly longer on your commute (if you take the T). You could probably fairly easily take the C line to Cleveland Circle to catch the morning express buses to the law school (a luxury I didn't have as this route didn't exist when I was a student), which would probably be a pretty fast commute.

BC admissions kinda sucks in that regard, there's no denying it. I think maybe 25% of my e-mails to them have been responded to

Luckily admissions has no bearing on the quality of the rest of the law school

After 1L they send out an email about the admissions process and such. This was my biggest gripe. Srsly, could they take a minute to add a personal touch to the email? The other schools did.
