Somewhere around 2/1. It could be a few days before or after. Ignore them for now. Apply to firms and get ready for round 2.los blancos wrote:Don't hold your breath is all I'll say about this topic.etlien wrote:Does anyone know when we get our grades?

I'm skeptical that Duke plans to ever release grades.quakeroats wrote:The grade deadline has come and gone. It won't be long now...

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
Here's an email from last year:
Date: January 31, 2011 3:14 PM
Good day everyone,
Grades
We are pleased to announce that the Fall 2010 grades will be released by 5:30 p.m. today. You may see your marks by visiting ACES. There are a few classes for which grades have yet to be reported by professors. If you are missing a grade, please do not contact your professor or the Registrar's Office. If you are still missing a grade on Thursday, February 3, please e-mail the Registrar's Office.
Transcripts
The Law School does not handle transcript requests. Please visit the University Registrar's Office website at http://www.registrar.duke.edu and click on the "Transcripts" link in the upper right-hand corner. They generally process such requests within 48 hours.
Congratulations on completion of the semester!
Sincerely,
Spencer

Ya. That was the date we were given in the informational session that should have been entitled, "Why you shouldn't really care about grades and why they don't really matter." I hate that teachers who got awesome law school grades continually are telling us that our grades do not matter that much.beachbum wrote:I think 1/31. Ditto, especially when they went to Harvard and graduated when the legal market was booming.lawyerwannabe wrote:Ya. I'm still hoping for grades tomorrow even though I doubt it. The email quakeroats posted from last year was a Monday, so.... fingers crossed?

The Monday was 1/31 though. If they keep the actual date consistent, then Tuesday it is us.stewie27 wrote:Ditto, especially when they went to Harvard and graduated when the legal market was booming.lawyerwannabe wrote:Ya. Good luck everyone! I'll post my best guesses as to what particular GPAs mean after grades come out if anyone's interested.lawyerwannabe wrote:The Monday was 1/31 though. The registrar, apparently. No idea what's causing the hold-up, but it's frustrating as hell. And I imagine it doesn't bode well for those who were hoping to get 1L SAs.quakeroats wrote:lol. Where'd that come from?beachbum wrote:Grades are now "tentatively" scheduled for Friday. Yeah.

Kind of. Several schools (particularly Cornell) get grades out a lot earlier and I'm sure that helps. Only a few firms will absolutely not consider you until they get grades. The people that got 1L SAs in my class generally had connections to a home market, absolutely outstanding grades, or networked like crazy in December and early January.beachbum wrote:The registrar, apparently. Oh, and I could personally not care less, but I have yet to understand how it takes people getting paid over $200k 6 weeks to grade 1L exams.

If we get them on Friday (far from certain), it'll be almost a full two months after our first final. That's completely ridiculous.los blancos wrote:Oh, and I could personally not care less, but I have yet to understand how it takes people getting paid over $200k 6 weeks to grade 1L exams.

While not having grades in-and-of-itself is not that bad, people who are trying to secure SA positions that are dependent on grades are really being put in a bad position because of this. I think every other top school has released their grades and employers probably are not going to wait around for Duke students to send in their transcripts if they have a ton of other viable candidates waiting to be interviewed.

I got screwed out of 2 SA opportunities last year because of the late grade release. Employers don't really like waiting until February to get grades when other schools they hire from release grades in late December.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
