1. How big are the average rooms?
2. Disappointing as the shared bathrooms are, how many people share them?
I can't decide if I want to live in LC; it seems to work out a little pricier than other options, but the convenience of having meals prepared for you is unbeatable (but the lack of a kitchen is sad -- how will I make brownies?!)

At least another year of sleeping in a single bed, sigh.

+1, i wanna know too! also, how many 'guest meals' do residents have where we can bring a friend to eat with us?

i apologize in advance b/c this is a douchy post, but does michigan yield protect?

i've been UR/complete for almost 8 weeks, a time span in which i've been admitted to Stanford, Columbia and Berkeley and had my JR1 with Harvard (still waiting to hear from Yale). i have a 4.0 and a 172 at HYP, but have ties to michigan and would seriously go if i got near/full ride.

You should submitted a LOCI (letter of continued interest) to let Michigan know that you are seriously considering attending. With that being said, it may be difficult to receive a full ride this late in the cycle, and to the best of my knowledge Michigan does not offer near full rides. It's the Darrow or nothing (which is approximately 1/2 tuition scholarship).

I'm pretty sure I've heard of Darrows ranging from a substantial portion of tuition up to a full ride + stipend. I'm too busy/lazy to do a forum search right now though.

I am terrible as far as giving a square footage estimate, but the bedroom part of the room is big enough for your twin bed, with space for one twin bed to fit next to it (my boyfriend and I actually did this when I went to visit because we couldn't both fit in his twin bed, so we used an extra mattress and laid them side by side and they filled the entire room). The closets vary from room to room--- his is EXTREMELY small (one shelf, one bar for hanging clothes about 4-5 feet across), but the people across the hall have closets double that size. The living space is much less cramped than the bedrooms (maybe 12x15 ft or so? I have nooo idea), and after looking at the pictures entchen posted, looks like those people did a lot more with their space than my boyfriend and his roommate have done, which definitely makes a difference. With just the 2 desks, a couch, and a TV, it can look a little desolate. As far as bathrooms, I think it may vary by block depending on whether people are in doubles or singles, but in his block the bathroom is on the second floor and has 2 shower stalls, 2 bathroom stalls, and one sink, shared between the 6 rooms in their block so maybe 10-12 guys? Each room also has a little sink/mirror area in the hall space between the bedrooms and living area, which they use to brush teeth, shave, etc.

I wish I would've thought to take pictures when I was there last semester, but if we don't get to see the inside of the rooms during ASW I will be sure to take some pictures of his room then to post on here. Like entchen said, not terrible but also nothing compared to the gorgeousness of the exterior!

As far as guest meals, non-residents can pay to eat at the lawyer's club, but it is super expensive (I want to say like $8-10 or something for lunch/dinner). I think law students not living in the lawyer's club can get a meal plan though.

Hope this helps!

The full Darrow is full tuition and fees plus a one time stipend of $7500 after the first year.

Thank you! That is extremely helpful! How big are the single rooms compared to the bedrooms in the double suites? Also, lack of closet space would be a total dealbreaker for me (I have two decent-sized closets, large chest of drawers AND additional under-bed storage right now).

I am actually not sure on this because I have not seen the inside of a single room.. And yes I am quite concerned about the closet space too, though I think it is something I'm just going to have to work around because I really want to live in the LC for the convenience aspect. In addition to the closet there is a chest of drawers in the room, so some stuff could be put in there, and I am thinking I could also buy some of those clear plastic bins, fill them with the clothes I wear less often, and stack them on the floor/above my hanging clothes on the shelf at the top of the closet. It seems like its mostly hanging clothes space that is going to be extremely difficult... I guess you could always get an armoire or something and keep it in your living room for coats? Or a coat rack?

edit: Hadn't even thought of under-bed storage but that's a great idea!

So, I was curious what the new buildings will look like, and I thought I would share this animation that I found on the Michigan website:

So, not that I don't love me some mimosas, but I also love me some running too. Where does one find info about that Saturday morning run for the first ASW? I'd kinda like to get a feel for the area that way.

Edited: sorry, just saw it on the .pdf schedule. Missed it my first read-through

Very excited. Though I have been wearing shorts and sandals for the last week, I am in for a shock.

10 degree windchill + about a foot of snow doesn't sound like shorts + sandal weather to you?

I just found out that cab fare to and from the airport is going to be over $100. My god that sucks. I have no experience with cabs and really didnt realize how much they cost.

The cab fare to and from the airport is ridiculous. IMO, the cab companies really take advantage of you because there are no easier methods of travel. The distances and the time involved really don't seem to warrant the cost. Try something else like shuttles or at the least, splitting cabs with others who are going to be leaving/going at the same time.

So $10,000 showed up under my financial aid awards for the 2011-2012 academic year. Is it safe to extrapolate that out over three years and assume I just got $30k in scholarships?

Also, has anyone had success negotiating with UM? I plan on trying next week...

Am I the only person that booked the Michigan Flyer? Is there something wrong with it that I do not know about?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
