The farmers market has great food and is a fun place to spend a lazy weekend morning. However, the prices are outrageous. Brings lots of money.oldhippie wrote:the farmer's market is AMAZING! we went in november when we visited for fun and we bought our entire week's worth of food there. man, we ate like royalty. i can't wait to go back!!!

i plan to join a CSA once i get there, which also tends to be pretty pricey but i'm all about paying more for local, organic stuff. and i'm a veg, so i can still feed myself fairly cheaply since i don't have to pay for meat...

On a totally unrelated note, I got an email from DU giving me a fee waiver. I find pretty funny considering this comes the week after I commit to CU and like forever ago since I was actually doing the application process. end of thread derailment/

What's a CSA? The best acronym I'm coming up with right now is Community-Shared Agriculture....oldhippie wrote:i plan to join a CSA once i get there, which also tends to be pretty pricey but i'm all about paying more for local, organic stuff. and i'm a veg, so i can still feed myself fairly cheaply since i don't have to pay for meat...

Haha, I was wondering the same thing. I came up with Co-op Supported Agriculture. Hopefully between the two of us we got at least 2 of the acronym letters nailed.LeDique wrote:What's a CSA? Hey yall I thought id stop by: I got my finaid statement in the mail today so be on the lookout you out of staters
it's based on 2010-2011 fees and says that tuition/fees/room/board will not be set until early summer. It also did not include any distinction for in-state/OOS figures nor did it include my scholarship on it...
Good luck everyone!

Or maybe now you know why only 80% were employed 9 months out---apparently the other 20% didn't know that they had graduated.

Why not ride out the recession at the top part school? hahaCanadianWolf wrote:Or maybe now you know why only 80% were employed 9 months out---apparently the other 20% didn't know that they had graduated.
P.S. its 88%, at least that is what CU-Boulder reports. Although to get a school to give an honest/non-fudged figure on employment numbers might be near impossible.

I guess no more paleo... hopefully that farmers market can supplement with some cheap veggies and eggs. College diet of pasta and eggs might have to go back in effect for a nice $5/day budget.queenlizzie13 wrote:Hmm...I wonder how that compares to other schools? $505 is $16/day. I bet I can make it more like $10-$12/day and save the rest of it for running expenses.ptblazer wrote:In case you're wondering where my post went, I deleted it. I found my sheet I got at ASD and the $750/month only includes rent and utilities for the 9 month school year and $505/month for food, for a total of $11,294.

oh, also, CSA's are the best ever. Have you done any research yet? This might sound a bit strange, but if I could get a CSA and a quarter buffalo, that would be a perfect situation. Can you Join a CSA in mid summer/fall though? Or are you moving out early?oldhippie wrote:i plan to join a CSA once i get there, which also tends to be pretty pricey but i'm all about paying more for local, organic stuff. and i'm a veg, so i can still feed myself fairly cheaply since i don't have to pay for meat...

I know the Kensington Apts got recommended earlier. Is that area of Boulder generally quieter and less under-grady in general? I saw a couple other places over there too..

Re: CU - Boulder class of 2014
for those who asked...CSA = community supported agriculture....you basically buy a share of a crop from a local farmer and get lots of super fresh veggies or, if it's a terrible crop year, you don't get much but you still support the local farmers. i've yet to have a bad crop year here in SC and get absurd amounts of beautiful, organic, local veg every week!franklin14 wrote:oh, also, CSA's are the best ever. as for what's in boulder, i've only looked very briefly but there are an obscene number of farms doing them, so i don't think it'll be a problem to find a good one, but i don't know yet about start dates. i'd guess one will start in fall for greens and root veggies....
and my SO would LOVE to find a quarter buffalo! if we find anything and need someone to share it with, i'll PM ya, franklin!

I would be interested in riding the CSA/quarter of a buffalo train.

I really like how the conversation has shifted to farmer's markets! That's actually one of my "concerns" for where I end up landing.

I just received my financial aid statement today (finally!).ptblazer wrote:Anyone, besides Krad, get their financial statement yet?
Also, as a question, I am looking at a place in Mapleton Hill. Does anyone know anything about the neighborhood and whether or not it's good? Also, it seems to be an okay distance to take by bus.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
