Does anyone read into the number of apps a school recieves? Does it infer anything?

In an e-mail from Gtown the assistant dean said he will look at 10,000+ apps this cycle.

According to this site, Michigan recieved 5,000 apps last year.

It also has to do with the size of the school. GULC needs 10,000 apps to get 500 students. Michigan last year had 6,312 apps and 376 students.

According to TLS, Yale got 3,300 3,797 apps last year.

Also, GULC's position in the ranking means a lot of people from above apply as a safety and from below as a reach.

Anywhere downtown is close and most are about the same rate. Anywhere outside of that and you'd need a rental car to get around. (Or you'd be taking a lot of taxis to/from events.)
The schools puts a lot of people up in the campus inn so not sure if it'll have rooms available. If you're willing to risk it, you may show up and talk to roommate and see if he minds her staying in the room... If not, you'd have to go to the one of the more remote hotels to get a last minute room. Not like the school or hotel checks.

I initially was going to stay on my own, but all the places near campus seemed really expensive and were booked up. The cheapest place I came across is the Lamp Post Inn (http://www.lamppostinn.com/) but it is about two miles from the campus. You may be able to take a bus though.

FWIW -- I've been PMing with grumbles, but there's a bunch of hotels/motels/inns on State street across from the Briarwood mall. Red Roof Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, etc. There's a bus stop for the 36 that's about a 5 minute walk from any of those. That bus goes right up State street and has a stop about a block away from the law school. It's 1.50 a ride (I think... will have to doublecheck that) and considering ASD will probably keep you busy all day, all you'll need to worry about is catching a bus to campus in the morning and then catching that same route back in the evening. There are plenty of restaurants/shops on campus that will keep you busy if you ever need to kill time before/during/after ASD, so staying off campus and busing could/should be a pretty viable option for those who don't want to/can't drop $$$ on the accommodations closer to campus.

The 36 line is the best one to be able to take to the law school. There are buses usually hitting each stop every 9-12 minutes unlike some of the other lines that do it every 30/60 minutes.

Thanks for the clarification, Helmholtz. I'm pretty familiar with the 16 and 7, but haven't used the 36 in a couple years, so I hope the info is useful for everyone that's coming in from out of state.

When we visited twice last year, we Pricelined and got the nice Marriott in Ypsi for $50 bucks a night. We rented a car, but when we calculated the cost of getting us both to Ann Arbor from the airport and the savings in hotel (Ypsi is cheaper because there is nothing there...but it's a 10 minute drive to Ann Arbor), it worked out to almost the same and we were then able to have the freedom to drive around Ann Arbor to visit housing options and the like.

EDIT: The hotels on Boardwalk Dr. are also bus accessable. There is a bus during weekdays that picks up at Wolverine Tower (right next to that cluster of hotels) and will take you straight down State to the law school. On weekends you can walk to the bus stop at the end of the street which is approx the length of 4 blocks and pick up a bus that will take you to campus as well.

I stayed at the library bed and breakfast this summer, it was about $85 I think. The woman was really nice and it was approximately an 8 minute walk to campus.

It's been two weeks since I received my decision letter, but I haven't received a scholarship letter and there's no indication that it's coming in the m&m section. There is, however, an award amount listed for 2012.

I'm just wondering if I can multiply that figure by three to get my total award, or if they front load it to accommodate three consecutive semesters in the first year.

You're astute. They do front load it. My total award is $54k and it initially showed up as $18k in Mail & Money. A few weeks later it changed to $27k, though. I optimistically thought they'd increased my award, but after calling I was told it had just been adjusted to reflect that I was a summer starter. I think the amount should be 1.5 times your per year award, or 1/2 of your total award.

Finally got my admit packet with scholarship letter on the way!
Is it standard practice for Michigan to hand-write a note at the end of the acceptance letter? I know they did that when they sent out the prospective student packet.
