Thanks for the apartment ratings link. I've been putting a bunch of places through it. I found a great place that has a 80% rating. I've also put a few places I've lived through it which has sort of given me a baseline to compare against. I'll bet they won't have any availability but its worth a shot! Where is everyone coming from? I'm in Washington DC myself.

So. Living situation. What apartments would people recommend?

Campus Crossings seems to have nasty ratings...http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/GA ... cliff.html 33% recommend it, lol. Looking for something a bit better. Suggestions?

Honestly, a lot of the places around Emory seem to have pretty poor ratings. I've found some places that are a little further out that have much better reviews. One of the higher rated ones that is right near Emory is Longwood though from the pictures it doesn't look to be the highest quality place I've ever seen. Cheap though...

Hey guys! Second deposits are almost due and I've decided I'll be joining you guys in August. :D

Since we're on the subject of apartments, does anyone here have any experience with Highland Square? When I went to Emory's visiting day in April, that was the only apartment I had a chance to look at and I LOVED it. However, if anyone has any input, I'd appreciate it. :)

I checked apartmentratings.com and although they are only recommended by 67% of people, that's pretty good for that site. XD The apartment I live in now is only recommended by 30% and I'm surviving, LOL!

Thanks in advance and nice to meet you guys! :D

Actually scratch what I just said, I just looked at my papers again and it was Highland LAKE I looked at, not Highland SQUARE.. And Highland Lake has a lower rating on apartmentratings.com.. Does anyone know anyone from either apartment?

I really feel sorry for all of you people that will attend Emory. Not only will most of you grossly overpay for a degree from a sinking law school, but it also seems that the Emory's administration does not care at all about its students and their plight.

Good luck.

Highland Lake is nice but you will have undergrads in the same area, thus there's always the chance that they will do to you what many of you might have done to other grads while in undergrad (aka, throw parties while the poor grad students have to study for their awkwardly timed finals and assignments).

Highland Square isn't too bad, it's a little older but the place is a 15 minute walk from campus and it's a nice walk at that. Plus there are shuttles there (as there are to pretty much every off campus residence area).

I would take online reviews with a grain of salt. First, pay attention to when the reviews were made. Plenty of the ones that I saw last year dated from 2004-2007. Those reviews are just patently useless. Even with the ones you do see, remember that nobody really posts online about apartments. It's not like Amazon. Unless you've had a very bad experience or a sublime one, I don't see most people posting. Think about it too like this, either of those extreme experiences are 1 or 2 out of the hundreds who live at some of these places. Post, for example, has 16 buildings, hundreds of apartments, and hundreds of people living here. Same at all of these places. They can't all be wrong, they can't all be ecstatic either, but you're looking for graduate housing here, not your Shangri La/Swiss Chateau. Even with that in mind, the apartments by campus are by and large pretty nice. I'd rank them as follows:
1. Gables Montclair (most expensive too by far)
2. gables Rock Springs (also rather on the high end of price)
3. Post Briarcliff (a good mix, imho, of nice apartments, location, and price)
4. Highland Lake (similar to post but I really do like the fact Poy st has lots of trees. Sounds stupid but post looks like a community as opposed to an apartment complex)
4a. Forgot about this one, Gables Sheridan - it's also a nice place, a little out of the way it seems but it's really just a few blocks from post. Can be a little costly though.
5. Highland Square (a little older apartments but well priced and well located)
6. Clairmont Reserve (older apartments but recently renovated, right next to Highland Lake, very good prices compared to the others but it is still an older complex)

I also recommend using ProMove to help guide your search. It's a company that searches and finds you apartments for free. Go in, have a meeting, and they will begin a search for you. While they will provide you with tons of options, there are reasons that most people end up living in one of the 6 places above, or in houses/individual apartment-condo units near the school. These are the most convenient places, they have lots of people our age from all the grad schools, and they are pretty nice in and of themselves.

Post Briarcliff: Does it have shuttle access? The units come unfurnished, yes?

And Campus Crossings is the new area right? It comes with furnished units, what do those units contain exactly? I'm hoping to avoid bed bugs and the like which come from many second-hand furnishings. Also how long does it take to walk from Emory to Campus Crossings?

Also, while we're at it: Anyone got photos of Emory law?

Thank you, trashman! That's very true about apartment reviews and so the list you made is extremely helpful! :) It's much better getting a list from a law student who knows what another student is looking for. I'm gonna check out every place you listed! Thanks for your help.

Metaread, I don't know the answers to your first two questions, but on Emory's site you can look at 360 views of a few rooms. You just need to download QuickTime to view them. Here's the page!

Just to clarify: none of the health forms that are due are due in July, right? We just hand those in before classes start? I'm fairly sure the answer is yes, but just to make sure...

@Metaread -- I was wondering about that too. I know the final UG transcripts are due Aug. 1, so I'm just aiming to have the health forms in before then as well.

Why is this thread so dead compared to the other Class of 2014 threads?

I don't think Emory people are as active on this forum. It's disheartening. Then again TLS has given Emory a lot of flack lately, about its rankings drop and its poor career development services, and its dean resigning. Emory may rise again, but right now, its reputation is soiled. :(

Yes it is disheartening. I think the amount of trash Emory has taken about the rankings drop is a bit over the top. Emory is still recognized by the non-TLS world as a top 20-25 school (I mean my god it was 22 last year and 20 the year before, people are quite short-sighted). The career services may not be great (I really don't know, since I haven't attended yet), but if that is the case I imagine you can find the same at many schools. People should be worrying about how they can hustle to find jobs, not complaining about career services. I have no doubt in the next few years Emory's rank will climb, the school puts too much money and pride in its grad programs for it not to. /rant

Anyway, it does seem odd to me that there's so few people on here from Emory. UGA's thread is like 50 times longer, as are all of its peer schools. I wonder what gives.

I think it's kind of stupid to be embarrassed about going to Emory. Yeah they have taken a lot of hits the past few months, but in the grand scheme of things being embarrassed about a school ranked #30 (and generally regarded as top-25 or higher) when there are SO many worse schools just doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed, but I've seen threads where Emory-ers were attacked, so I can see why they might dive for cover, or at least talk in friendlier lands...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
