Okay, since I'm officially decided that means organizing the big move to Texas starts soon. I'll probably be looking for a roommate to share a 2/2 in the village with. I don't care if I live with a guy or another girl, as long as their considerate and not slobbish. I'll probably be moving the last week of July. Anyone on this thread interested? Send me a PM.

Re: SMU 2014
Ill be there in the fall as well. Enjoyed ASD and made my 90% mind up on SMU. I heard alot of current students recommend the village which I looked at and liked quite a few of the complexes within the village. Uptown was nice as well but a bit more expensive. Also they could not have gotten a nicer day to host admitted students. Love some Texas weather and another 3 years will be great.

Re: SMU 2014
I'd say the village is a good choice. I know of several people in my section that live in the village and am aware of several/many other law students that live somewhere in the village. It's not too expensive, close to school, and close to a lot of shopping. I live in one of the newer complexes, and I have no complaints. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.swilson215 wrote:I'm visiting Dallas right now for the ASD tomorrow, and I took some time today to look at a few apartments around the SMU area. Is the general consensus that The Village apartments are fair-to-good choices for students? I was pretty pleased with the floor plans and models I saw today! Anyone else looking at any complexes in the village?

Born and raised in Houston. The name references the good old days of the Rockets championship runs. I went to undergrad in the northeast so 70 is good with me now. The heat is always good with me. I will say that its gonna be nice to be in Dallas away from the humidity here in Houston. Bartleby are you from Houston?

Yep, I'm from Houston, too. Anyone want to tell me the differences between Dallas and Houston besides some snow and cooler weather? I'm jumping off the Texans and Rockets bandwagon and onto the Cowboys and Mavs ASAP (even though I think the Rockets are built to be real contenders in 3-4 years). I'm a flake.

Lifetime Houstonian here, and the biggest difference was the humidity. It sounds ridiculous but coming from Houston you notice a huge drop in humidity. And the winter was much much harsher than any I've experienced in Houston.bartleby wrote:Anyone want to tell me the differences between Dallas and Houston besides some snow and cooler weather? Also Houston is much friendly, laid back, and welcoming than Dallas.
Also zoning laws are weird, ridiculous and unnecessary.
Also the Tex-Mex sucks up here. Thank god they at least have an Arandas
but other than that Dallas is fine.
Edit: I can't spell or use grammar correctly apparently

Hahahaha, coming from California, I was literally shocked when people offered to grab a bag for me when I was struggling to get my luggage at the airport -- I thought they were trying to steal it! And when people just smiled at you for no reason. Are you saying it's even friendlier in Houston? Is Houston Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, or something?fathergoose wrote: Also Houston is much friendly, laid back, and welcoming than Dallas.

The impression I got from Dallas was that it was where suburbia goes to thrive. "Little Boxes on the Hillside."

I'm from the Midwest too. We had an unusual cold spell (week and a half) here in January (or February?) where an inch of ice pretty much shut down the city. (no salt trucks/plows, and no one knows how to drive). Nothing "harsh" about it. I guess maybe for a Houstonian like goose. Winter N00b.Gecko of Doom wrote:Midwesterner here. Anyway, I just got done with the ASD at my other top choice school and was unimpressed. It's looking like SMU this fall!

Has anyone gotten scholarship information back yet? It said we are all eligible for scholarships if we got our application in by 15 February, and that we'd know a couple of weeks after being admitted. Am I wrong in thinking this?

By scholarship information I meant scholarship award. Your award came in your admissions packet?

It was harsh for a Houstonian.mbusch22 wrote:I'm from the Midwest too. This is actually a pretty accurate interpretation with of the way Houstonians handle cold weather: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhHr7LCV ... r_embedded

For the future 1Ls who are wondering how to tell me from the crowd once we get on campus -- I'll be toting this sweet cupcake carrier. Baking is my "de-stressing" method.
