Haha I live in Austin semi-near UT campus. It's a cheap apartment and pretty spacious, but I am READY to be in a nicer place (hence why I'm not so much looking at Americana. I have a dog too, so it makes things a little trickier. Luckily he's a bug-hunter.Magnolia wrote:Good god, where do you live?? Yea, I have no interest in the Americana. If I wanted to live surrounded by cinderblocks, I'd go to jail.akili wrote:Haha I live in Austin semi-near UT campus. Was it you who was saying that you didn't like 20 & Grand because it was too old? I'm curious to hear more about that. I didn't get to see any of the actual apartments, but based on the lobby, it actually seemed relatively new and pretty nice.

20 and Grand wasn't bad or anything and you certainly can't beat the location, but it seemed pretty expensive for what you got. I'd be paying less for more sq. footage and nice appliances, kitchen, walk-in close at the Grove. Also, I saw plenty of people with dogs, but living high up with a young dog kind of stresses me out. Also I liked the residential feel of the Grove.Magnolia wrote:Yea, I have no interest in the Americana. That makes sense. My overnight host lives at The Grove and I really liked it.akili wrote:20 and Grand wasn't bad or anything and you certainly can't beat the location, but it seemed pretty expensive for what you got. My biggest (only?) concern with living anywhere that would require driving to class is getting home after Blackacre. I won't drive if I've had more than one drink, and I know myself well enough to know I'll rarely be having only one drink. I guess I could carpool with friends/roommates and take turns DD'ing, but that seems way more complicated than just living within walking distance. Might be worth it, though, for the closet space.

Haha yeah, that's why the Bristol on B'way seems perfect! Walkable, but also really nice. A little pricey, but all of the walking distance ones seem to be. Bah. I wish I had more time to see them!Magnolia wrote:That makes sense. I would love to live with a roommate in a 2 BR in the Bristol on Bway. I assume that's a pretty popular choice though, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.akili wrote:Haha yeah, that's why the Bristol on B'way seems perfect! Walkable, but also really nice. Is the consensus that B on Broadway > 20 and Grand? Im almost only considering apartments that are walking distance from law school.

In terms of quality, yes definitely. Bristol is kind of swanky.

What are yall thinking of doing for backpacks/messenger bags? My only backpack is from junior year of high school and I'm thinking of upgrading to a nicer one. Any recs? I've mostly just looked at the Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag. It's pretty sweet and you can customize it! (warning: it's extremely addictive on their website!)

OO! I'm glad someone else is thinking about that too! I'm thinking vintage leather messenger bag! Something at home in the class room while not making me look up-tight while walking home from class. I am surfing ebay. Broke student status!

Ok your enthusiasm inspired me to take the plunge! Definitely a relief to be official decided!akili wrote:I just felt really happy!! Also, think I just found my place for next year too! I'm pretty excited to decorate!
You're so on the ball with living arrangements. I've barely started looking. Where did you decide?

I found a one bedroom at the Bristol! It's on a lower floor, which is awesome with my dog, it has a washer and dryer, 800+ sq feet and is "12 seconds" away from the brand new Chuys (my favorite restaurant ever). I'm a little nervous to take it without seeing it personally but it seems ideal! Craigslist is pretty useful. I just searched for Bristol or Vandy and it narrowed stuff down nicely.Magnolia wrote:Ok your enthusiasm inspired me to take the plunge! I like that we are pretty much the only ones hanging out in here.Magnolia wrote:That's awesome! Congrats!akili wrote:I found a one bedroom at the Bristol! Hahah yea, our thread is kind of lacking compared to Chicago and UVA. At first it was giving me an inferiority complex, but now I kinda like that we can have an extended conversation without things getting lost in the shuffle.akili wrote:I like that we are pretty much the only ones hanging out in here.Magnolia wrote:That's awesome! I think the later deposit date might be why too. I mean, for UT the deposits were due on the 15th so everyone committed...

I bet there's also at least a few people waiting til the last minute to see if they can get in off a t14 WL before depositing at Vandy.akili wrote:I think the later deposit date might be why too. I mean, for UT the deposits were due on the 15th so everyone committed...

In any event, we're obviously the best 2014 class, regardless of thread length!
