What is the Student Host event that is being held tomorrow? I probably won't be able to attend because I have work, but I am wondering what kind of information they will be sharing.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I went to one a few weeks ago. Here's how it was for me:
First we sat through a short presentation by the Dean of Admissions about all the generic stuff about LLS you already know or, if not, could find out on the website. Then, we sat in on a 1L class with a 1L student (the student host) of that class. So, the class you visit depends on what the students that you can match up with have that day. After that, the 1L student host took us on a quick tour of the campus. Lastly, we returned to the room we met at to eat lunch with the other visiting 0Ls, the 1L hosts, and a few faculty members (one of which was the professor of the class I got to sit in on). You can ask them questions about whatever you want to know about, and they will just answer your questions and talk to everyone for about an hour or so. So, when I went, it wasn't so much that they were dishing out information as it was the 0Ls getting to ask questions about things they want to know.

@Judge Philip Banks: How did you find it? Informative? The thing is that as a manager at my company, I have a crapload of work to do for an upcoming audit. But, I signed up for the event because I thought it might help to hear info and experiences in person. From everything you said, would it be worth it to take a 4 hour break to attend knowing that I'll just have more work to finish that night?

Well, I thought sitting in on the class was very interesting (even though I have no idea what is going on...). The professor I sat in on seemed really good and well-liked, and the other professor for that day is also considered a good professor. The campus tour was pretty minimal, and I had already been on one, so I guess that wasn't so useful. However, I thought the lunch with faculty was great. The three professors who participated were very candid about what they thought about the school, answered everyone's questions in detail, told us their own stories and stories about their time at LLS, and demonstrated their passion. I honestly was not expecting that much from the event, but it exceeded my expectations. I would recommend it if you could get take a half day work or something like that. None of the available dates fit with your schedule, either?

Do you know until when they will offer ASD? Right now I am still not 100% sure if I will be attending Loyola or not, so I am bit hesistant about attending ASD yet.

I think ASD is supposed to be April 15. They haven't released any info on it yet though, to my knowledge. You don't have to be 100% on LLS or not to attend ASD. They probably want to go so they can try to convince you to choose LLS if you are undecided.

um, call the school and ask for another one, or e-mail admissions. if you're 100% not going why would you hold a spot that someone else may really want instead of making a two minute phone call? how would you feel if this was your spot at your top choice? (sorry but i know if there's some jerk doing this at GW, my top choice, i would want to shake him and ask what the hell he was thinking...)

Uhh..... Yeah, it's pretty darn easy to withdraw, paperwork or not! For example, the following email (yanked from another TLS thread) will do the trick:

To: X School of Law Admissions,
Subject: Decline of Admission

Dear Admissions Committee,

I am honored that you have given me the opportunity to join your prestigious law community. However, I have decided to consider other options more heavily and will not be enrolling in your 2011 incoming class.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Person Y, Lxxxxxxxx

Go ahead, make someone's day-- if you're not going, decline right now. It takes 20 seconds.

Also, just out of curiosity. Do I lose power to leverage scholly if I turn in seat deposit?

you still have over a month do negotiate before you have to send it in... why don't you e-mail them this week? not sure about LLS but USD got back to me (with a no, but still) in two days.

It's because I still haven't received responses from other schools yet :(. I was hoping maybe I will receive scholly from other schools and can use those to leverage.
Ugh... I hate this.

Is anyone worried about not landing a good job, because this is not a top ranked school. I really want to go here and got a great scholarship, but I am afriad that if I don't go to USC or UCLA I will not land a great job after graduation, or land one at all. I keep reading such bad information about loyola, it worries me.

Also, what does everyone think about Loyola's entertainment law program. I know USC and UCLA are highly recognized for theirs, but not sure about Loyola. In addition, is it hard to land a high paying entertainment law job?

Thank you.

It would be at least somewhat worrisome just about anywhere, really. What bad info are you reading about LLS? Mind sharing?

As for your entertainment law question, you might want to post it over HERE. They would probably be better able to answer your questions, since they are current students and are a very valuable source of information/advice.

Nobody "lands" jobs. People find jobs after taking responsibility for their own job searches. If you want a guaranteed job, go to Yale.

...if you got into UCLA and USC and you want to entertainment law (which is mostly biglaw) you should not be going to loyola. IMO. especially if you'll have in-state tuition for UCLA, i think most people would think you were crazy for not going unless you had a full scholly to LLS.

My point is that your ability to find a job depends on you, not the school, not anyone else.

For those whose decisions are not set in stone and still might be debating between the choice of USD and Loyola, check this out http://blogs.forbes.com/kurtbadenhausen ... ke-160000/. Isn't it interesting how USD's average starting salary is higher than both Pepperdine and Loyola, especially roughly by 6k?? I am now in a greater dillema than before..

You might want to share this with the 30 percent of USD grads who failed the July 2010 bar exam. Loyola was 5th among CA schools. Pepperdine was 3rd. This numbers vary from year to year, of course. Still pretty shocking that Loyola students passed the Bar at a 14 percent faster rate than USD.

are you serious? this is an even more rediculous method than usnews uses. these are self-selected people who choose to enter their salaries on some website... do you think the kids who took an entry level job at a nonprofit and is making 36k went onto this site and proudly pronounced his salary? doubtful.

PS--- not sure if this has been discussed--- does anyone know how section stacking is at LLS? this is becoming a huge factor in decisions at this point, since many of my schollys have a top 33 stip. section stacking could definitely eliminate a school on its own.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
