Last year 909 was 1280/1270ish for a 2BR/2BA (so 635 each). I don't remember what the Georgia Traditions rent was, but I remember that it was higher than that.Sandro wrote:How much are the downtown/ish lofts/nice apartments running for rent ? Going to the ASD this weekend! Pretty good chance I'll be there in the fall.
I don't want to live alone, so I'll be looking for roommates once I decide where I'm going for sure. I'm a girl, 23, nonsmoker, sometimes messy, sometimes not (but never dirty. there's a difference! ha)...no pets currently but not opposed to one.

Was admitted 3/24, and attended ASD on the 26th and really enjoyed it. Am starting to search for housing in Athens as attending UGA is probable for me, anyone else looking for a roommate (I'm male, 23, pretty clean)? Heard good things about 909 Broad and some other places, and am looking for a 2 bedroom most likely. Went to GA Tech undergrad so if theres any other jackets out there lemme know, I couldn't seem to spot any at the ASD.

Re: UGA Law Class of 2014
I did a quick look on craiglist and found quite a few 2-3 bedroom houses around campus for 1200 or less- I would much rather live in a house than go back to collegiate style apartments... I figure I would be in class, library all day and heading home to a cramped apartment isn't that appealing.

If you don't want your house broken into be really careful about houses on the eastside down past MLK (so like first st, 2nd st, pearl st, that area). every single student I know that lives there has had their car broken into more than once.Sandro wrote:I did a quick look on craiglist and found quite a few 2-3 bedroom houses around campus for 1200 or less- I would much rather live in a house than go back to collegiate style apartments... Good advice. I kinda got that vibe from the east side, looking more for north of campus close to downtown.

For those unclear what I am talking about:
[A is the law school]
--ImageRemoved--
There are 1Ls that live in that area and like it, but if you don't want your car broken into, don't do it. Living in certain parts of that area can also disqualify you from having pizza delivered b/c of robbery fears. So, basically, I wouldn't live there, but some might be ok with it.

and general question...anyone considering Alabama as an alternative to UGA? if so, what are the major differences you've noticed? what do you like/not like about each school and/or potential law school experience?
feel free to PM me.

Downtown(like actually downtown...909 or whistlebury is as far east as you want to go and gameday is as far west), boulevard (be careful with some of the perimeter area of that neighborhood, but most of it is really nice), Five Points, and parts of the eastside by Barnett Shoals/Cedar Shoals/Gaines School (like the Summit/the woodlands/etc.).nmcdgt wrote:where do you recommend eandy?
Edit: Stadium Village can be a really good deal, too, esp. if you get it from an independent owner.

is there another UGA 2014 thread? This seems to be smaller than a lot of other ones...or are people just undecided?

The same thing happened this year as in last year--most people are still posting stuff in the acceptance/denial/WL thread.onmytoes812 wrote:is there another UGA 2014 thread? This seems to be smaller than a lot of other ones...or are people just undecided?

The Exchange at Athens seems like a really nice place to live. The rent includes cable and internet. Electricity is separate. I was told it's about a 10 minute drive from the law school. The only thing is you'd have to be willing to sign a 12 month lease.

Unless you are loaded by some other means, do NOT get a 1 bedroom at the Georgian. Just don't. It is way more expensive to do that than a law student ought to be paying.the11111111 wrote:Where is everyone living...

as opposed to what? just wondering if there are any 10 month options. that'd be tight.umilikechips wrote:The Exchange at Athens seems like a really nice place to live. I don't know anyone that has anything other than a 12 month lease unless they are paying extra each month to get a 9 month option(and it comes out to the same amount).bartleby wrote:as opposed to what? just wondering if there are any 10 month options. that'd be tight.umilikechips wrote:The Exchange at Athens seems like a really nice place to live. that's a good point, i didn't even think of it that way. I guess most students would either keep their apartment while they do something else during the summer or sublease it?eandy wrote:I don't know anyone that has anything other than a 12 month lease unless they are paying extra each month to get a 9 month option(and it comes out to the same amount).bartleby wrote:as opposed to what? just wondering if there are any 10 month options. that'd be tight.umilikechips wrote:The Exchange at Athens seems like a really nice place to live. Re: UGA Law Class of 2014
UGA Family Housing has 10 month, for no extra fee. In fact that is the default lease, sometime in August- sometime in May or June (you choose). Some of the units have ugly (cinderblock) walls and no central heating (just wall units) but some do. Just have to ask. Its right on campus but still quiet, and just a ten minute bus ride to campus. Bus comes every 5-10 mins or so.
Spent my first year there, its really a great option IMO and way cheaper than the other options being thrown around here.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
