Has anyone heard anything since the initial admissions envelope?
Sent in my intent to enroll form along with the initial deposit. So far just silence on their end...

I think he meant the form in the purple envelope that says "Congrats. Now give us $600."

I got a letter and a copy of "The Law School" magazine the other day. I haven't sent the deposit yet though.pocketwatcher wrote:Has anyone heard anything since the initial admissions envelope?

Mercer if you like space; D'Ag if you want to have some extra cash on hand.mst wrote:IN ED! Hey classmates! Now to start figuring out the eternal question: Mercer or D'ag?

As far as networking goes, where do you think I'll have a better shot? Keep in mind that I'm straight out of UG so I don't want to spend my nights surrounded by folks in their 40's...Anastasia Dee Dualla wrote:Mercer if you like space; D'Ag if you want to have some extra cash on hand.mst wrote:IN ED! I don't know ANYTHING about New York, so typically I'd just do campus housing.. but I have a cat.
Where do I even look? I don't know where to start. I'd hate to choose not to go to NYU based on an overwhelming housing decision.. lol

Re: NYU Class of 2014
One thing to think about is how far from campus you want to live - walking distance, longish walking distance, 10-15 minute subway ride, etc. (I live in the third category and I think all the large buildings here allow cats and small dogs.)arism87 wrote:I don't know ANYTHING about New York, so typically I'd just do campus housing.. but I have a cat.

Edit: or did you mean where to live in general? As far as I can tell, classmates who don't live on campus tend to live in the east village or Brooklyn.

In general I guess, I already assumed living within walking distance wouldn't be a possibility. How did you find yours? I googled/craigslisted for awhile last night and really didn't see much that was even borderline affordableBaiAilian2013 wrote:One thing to think about is how far from campus you want to live - walking distance, longish walking distance, 10-15 minute subway ride, etc. (I live in the third category and I think all the large buildings here allow cats and small dogs.)arism87 wrote:I don't know ANYTHING about New York, so typically I'd just do campus housing.. but I have a cat.

Either one is fine really. I guess older people might tend toward Mercer, but I don't see much evidence of that.mst wrote:As far as networking goes, where do you think I'll have a better shot? Re: NYU Class of 2014
My building my husband actually saw on a billboard a couple years before we moved here; the leasing guy said we were the only people ever to cite the billboard, lol. After factoring in a couple free months, we pay like $2300 for a 1-br, but I think that's a lot higher than what most single students pay (it's a pretty nice building). (That is, however, less than what I hear a studio costs in Mercer.) I found craigslist very overwhelming for New York, so we used mostly the sites where you can narrow things down a lot more, like rent.com or apartment.com etc. I know a couple people who live a longish walk away, in the village, east village, or lower east side, but I think Brooklyn is pretty popular too.arism87 wrote:In general I guess, I already assumed living within walking distance wouldn't be a possibility. Re: NYU Class of 2014
What's ya'll's opinions (current students) on living alone the first year in a studio or 1BR vs a cramped 2BR or even 3BR? How is studying hampered? Would you strongly encourage a particular housing option for 1L? Any horror stories? Is living with non law students during 1L a bad idea?
