And yeah I thought it was kind of simplistic but was hoping that's just her teaching style.
in other news, just got CLS' finaid award (went in at asw and talked to them about nyu's deadline). 20k less than nyu's offer.

Same. CLS offered a higher award so I withdrew from NYU today with an email protesting their harsh deadlines for merit aidmoneko wrote:NYU just notified me that my scholly has expired.Hobbes89 wrote:ugh, still haven't heard anything here yet...hopefully they are sending them one at a time and not in a huge batch, else I'm in trouble...moneko wrote:also had dubler and yeah... definitely seemed more simplistic than my UG classes, but i figured she might've been dumbing it down cause it was a mock class??bistduverrueckt wrote:

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
Despite me providing a deadline on the email I originally sent to CLS, I called pretty late into business hours to make sure I'd get something today. They said they had snail mailed everything last Friday, but were very friendly and scanned and emailed me the letter.
They offered a decent amount less than NYU, so I'm not sure what's going to happen now...

The one in LA was a lot of fun, but if you went to the ASP, it's just like their wine and cheese receptionsalicen wrote:anyone planning to go to the alumni and admits reception in boston next wednesday? is it worth it / fun?

Is there a way to check the status of your financial aid app online for CLS like there is for NYU?

Show some more enthusiasm in here guys. I haven't heard nearly enough ASW stories.

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
You want ASW stories, here's mine!
I took a red-eye in and was exhausted the whole time, which made me a little overwhelmed by the hundreds of people there. The first day was kind of random and it was hard to meet people (and I'm a pretty social person). The second day was more structured, and I was well rested haha. There were mock classes, and I got cold called, and I didn't know the answer haha.
On the whole, all of the 1Ls and 2Ls I met seemed very chill and happy with their decision. I didn't get a competitive vibe from any of the current students so I think the whole CLS is competitive thing is just a bunch of crap. I made some really good friends (looking at you, annie) and I know I will make many, many more if the people I met end up going to CLS. The 0Ls are really tight.
There were a few people who were kind of ... frustrating. As in, they just kept talking and talking. And, you know, most of the time I want to hear about your story and where you came from and all the cool stuff you've done. But half an hour later, if the whole lunch table is falling asleep while you're talking about some random transaction you handled at your consulting firm, it's time to let the conversation flow in a different direction. But I only met a couple of people like this, and I think you can expect that at any law school.
I met some people who recognized me from TLS, although the first time someone said the letters 'TLS' it took me a few seconds to get what he was talking about since I had never heard it said out loud before. One person even called me out on being the OP of the Columbia 2011! thread. That was embarrasing.
The after-hours parties were awesome, I didn't pay for a single drink but boy did I pay the next morning.
The housing is really great. I don't think you can go wrong (unless you go to the Arbor). I requested to live with other law students, but some people took the different view that it would be nice to get away from the law students. Morningside Heights is a cool neighborhood, but I can see it getting old after 3 years.
ED to UVa. EDIT: sorry, i don't know where that came from

Did you say you're a ED to UVA? Sounds cool though and I'm sure we won't all be hanging in Morningside Heights the entire time.

So see if they'll match. You seem too reserved for the crazy guys/gals in the Chicago thread lol. But then again if you come to CLS...there's a great chance I'll be there acting crazy as well.

Well I'm withdrawing from Chi tomorrow so if you wanna join the party then by all means. Good luck whatever you decide, but I'd love to another TLSer in NYC next year.CastleRock wrote:That crazy chi crew is full of all my tls friends.Non-Chalant1 wrote:So see if they'll match. Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
I was admitted in the first wave of RD and got my financial aid stuff in reasonably early (received Chicago's award a month ago) but I called Columbia today and they are still reviewing my application. I asked them when I might receive my award and they gave me a standard bureaucratic response (wouldn't give any time frame). So.....what do I do? I did everything I could have reasonably done and they're kind of screwing me right now in terms of making an informed decision...

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2014
Am I the only one who thinks Columbia's financial aid department is the slowest they've dealt with so far among the top schools? And the least cooperative? I've had friends who have sent in their fin aid apps a LOOOONG time ago, and still no response. They even emailed the director and assistant director. No response. I'm starting to get frustrated...
