Pinnacle was apparently the most popular spot for current 1Ls, but there are a bunch of us starting this fall that are living in the Alexan Garrett also. It has only been open a year which is why they said alot of people starting last fall didn't even know about it. Plus, after the housing tour during ASW, my soon-to-be roomie and I liked the feel of AG more and have already filled out an application there. Based on all the facebook posts, I think most of our class will be pretty split between AG and Pinnacle, so you should have alot of law students either place.

Thanks, it fits my school choice and username. Going to Duke after graduating from an average sometime tourney-team undergrad will be fun.beachbum wrote:It could be, though it seems the admitted students group is mostly a bunch of current students trying to sublet their apartments. How did the quality between the two compare? I might be going for a lease sight unseen and Pinnacle Ridge seems to have better deals on 1 bedrooms.bep244 wrote:PureEnergy wrote:according to the DeNovo, Pinnacle Ridge is the most popular. Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
the quality of AG is indisputably better than pinnacle. when i saw pinnacle, i felt that the difference in price accurately reflected the difference in the quality of the facilities, which are much older in pinnacle. AG is so new that there is a very good chance you will be the first one living in your apartment. that is not to say, however, that pinnacle is bad. If I had to rate them both on a scale of 1-10, I would give pinnacle a 6 and AG an 8.5. Also possibly worth noting, pinnacle is kind of located in a mini-forest, which some people on the tour loved and others had a minor allergy attack.TUP wrote:How did the quality between the two compare? How much money, if any, do these guys ask you to come up with to reserve an apartment for the fall?
I think we've put up a $375 reservation fee + $50 app fee. Apparently $200 of the reservation fee goes back towards your first month's rent, and they donate another $25 to St. Judes. They have an application to fill out for each roommate that includes past housing info, work info, etc, and they have asked for verifcation of income (which they said can be a past W-2, pay stubs, or financial aid paperwork). We're starting our lease August 1st, so I guess we'll have to front the first month's rent? I honestly haven't thought that far ahead yet...
I would also agree with the comparison in the above post of Pinnacle and AG. We were able to pick the exact apartment we wanted and since the place is new, no one has ever lived in it before us. The current 1Ls in both places seemed to love where they lived, but for my roommate and I, we wanted the newer amenities, the ability to pick an apartment on the top floor by the clubhouse (ie gym & pool), and we thought the extra price was worth it. I will say though, some people really did seem to like the "woodsy" atmosphere of Pinnacle better. I think it's just personal preference.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
When choosing an apartment after ASW my insane self created a spreadsheet of all of the apartments visited during ASW + one or two others. Since TLSers tend to be as neuorotic as myself, or at least appreciate a good neuroses every once in a while, I thought I would share it with you guys. I published it to a web page via google docs and here is the link:
https://spreadsheets0.google.com/spread ... utput=html
Obviously the pros and cons are based on my own personal preferences. Also, you will notice that I did not include Pinnacle Ridge because, after visiting, I knew I had no intention of living there. But, if someone wishes to compile the relevant information, I can add it to the spreadsheet and it will automatically update the webpage. HTH!

Thanks for the awesome spreadsheet. It's very helpful. Did you visit all the individual units? How did you like Trinity Commons? I'd like a studio apartment with covered parking, and it seems like there aren't many options.

Edit: Upon further review, it looks like you've already replied to the post about Duke making 8-10 offers from the waitlist (?). I'm not sure what you want us to tell you, then.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
Was just seeing if anyone else had more news (my version of aggregating information from various sources). Was also trying to figure out if they have been cutting people off the WL this whole time. I'm trying to get an idea of where I stand and knowing they will accept 8-10 isn't that useful (it seems they have a large WL this yr), if they haven't also been shrinking the list.
Ideal world being that only 10 people are left on the WL and Im one of them -- joking, of course.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
Sorry just seeing this now. I visited all of the apartments except for Trinity Commons. Didnt even know they existed at the time and they probably didn't include them on the tour because 1) over half of the apartments are still under construction, so they have no idea how many law students will want to live there/what the building will be like and 2) the cost. I do not believe we saw any studio apartments in the buildings we saw, but I'm sure they can be found in durham. COL is so low that even a person on full financial aid can live in a 1 bedroom i believe, so i dont think they felt the need to show us studios.mbstuff wrote:Thanks for the awesome spreadsheet. hey. i'll also be at duke. just checking in. i'm trying to look for apartments and seems like AG and pinnacle are popular choices. i won't have a car, so it would be great for me to live somehwere that's within walking distance from the law school. any suggestions? or is AG or pinnacle still a solid choice?
any info would be appreciated! thanks.

Lofts you can walk from. Pinnacle is more of a (long) bike. Theres a bus stop outside my apt that you can walk to, but I have never taken it.DallasCowboy wrote:No, can't walk from those. I really don't know where you can walk from. Maybe a dorm haha.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
I haven't really paid attention to TLS lately. if they are letting 8-10 people off the waitlist does that mean that they haven't woefully over-enrolled again this year? or did they just up the class size?
also, i'll be moving into pinnacle ridge july 15th-ish. if any other 0Ls are moving in early and want to meet up, let me know. i haven't made it to any events and i'd love to meet some people before we actually start school!

Nah, reports are that they're targeting a class size around 190-200, which sounds great to me. I'll be moving into Alexan Garrett in a few weeks- would definitely be cool to get a TLS group/meet-up going.pmc1985 wrote:I haven't really paid attention to TLS lately. if they are letting 8-10 people off the waitlist does that mean that they haven't woefully over-enrolled again this year? or did they just up the class size?
