Gunner? I just love sports and am very competitive. Haha slow pitch softball is amazing... I mean you r underhanded the ball... Problem is UVA has no fences.... So people can basically stand way back and steal homerunsYCrevolution wrote:Gunner....jt1341 wrote:So how does one go about getting on a competitive softball team when u get there so u don't only havve a section team that may not be so good.gladiator wrote:UVA has a real Cavman, real horse, mascot Cavman, and mascot horse....though the mascot horse may have been quickly retired due to low approval.
Also, most people don't really know what wahoo means so it's not much of a reputation but UVA Law is known for beer and softball independently. That makes most people jealous though, coming to UVA for the softball invitational weekend is like their Christmas to get to be like us for 3 days.
Ask around. I recall some of the more skilled 1Ls forming their own team last year, and other teams are always looking for good players.

Has anyone looked at old threads to see when they started admitting RD last year?

Yeah I've seen that, but rumor has it that some people were actually admitted around this time- I was just wondering if that can be verified. (Maybe I should just chill and let it happen... lol)sundance95 wrote:http://www.top-law-schools.com/images/d ... rginia.jpgarism87 wrote:Has anyone looked at old threads to see when they started admitting RD last year?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
If you're good, it's not really difficult. It's fairly easy to seek out/be sought out given those that are good are looking to build a team immediately. In co-rec, the 2 best teams will lose very few players to graduation so unfortunately for you, most likely you'll have to wait til 1L spring to build a 1L co-rec team since they'll have very limited recruiting needs. For mens, most likely the best 1Ls will make their own team because that pretty much always happens.jt1341 wrote:So how does one go about getting on a competitive softball team when u get there so u don't only havve a section team that may not be so good.gladiator wrote:UVA has a real Cavman, real horse, mascot Cavman, and mascot horse....though the mascot horse may have been quickly retired due to low approval.

As for no fences, that's not really true/important. Sometimes you play at the Park which does have fences and Copeley doesn't have fences but it does have trees in the outfield that make it very difficult to just "play deep" in left and right field so the only times you'll crush a ball and fly out is on a hit to deep center or if the fielder gets lucky and catches it behind or off the trees.

Any league for those of us who don't intend on putting down their beer when they get up to bat?

Never heard that wahoo definition, but it makes senseesq wrote:Wahoo: a fish that can drink three times its weight, aka a nickname for UVA students - many of whom can also drink up to three times their weight.Former Wahoo? sorry if this is a common term, i am not there yet.
Edited for reference: --LinkRemoved--

The more standard one is that in the early 1900's or sometime in thereabouts a visiting team came and played here and the fans were particularly roudy so they referred to them as "wahoos" and it stuck.
I like the fish explanation better.

I'm guessing you were kidding but there actually is a separate drunk league that more explicitly combines beer and softball by making drinking part of the game.turkeysub wrote:Any league for those of us who don't intend on putting down their beer when they get up to bat?

I just got an email from Jason Dugas asking if I had a moment to talk to him later today. Does anyone know if that means I got in, or could I still have been waitlisted. Exact text is below:
Mr. XXXXXXX – I hope this note finds you doing well. I’d like to visit with you for a few minutes about your application for admission to Virginia Law, so when you have a free minute or two, please call me at 434-924-6024. If you get my voicemail, please let me know when it would be convenient time to call you back.
I look forward to hearing from you. All the best - jason

The drunk league is real folks. I believe the rules are you must always have a beer in your hand in the field. You can't score until you finish a beer given to you when you reach first base. The rules have to published somewhere, check NGSL.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Yeah, I heard that one too. I think they say that it came out of a bitter rivalry between Virginia and Washington and Lee, where W&L started calling Virginia Wahoos, which is a fish right off of VA's coast - apparently to be called a fish was insulting.2014 wrote: Never heard that wahoo definition, but it makes sense
