Re: Chicago Class of 2014
It seems like Chicago is taking a lot of people off the waitlist this year compared to other schools (I am one, so not trying to be offensive to anyone here)...Does this mean that more people who were originally accepted are choosing not to attend? Or did Chicago just not overenroll the way some of the other top schools have? And if Chicago is diving into the waitlist pretty hard, think that the change in numbers will have any significant impact on ranking for next year?

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
I don't think we can take the WL activity on TLS as an indication that more or less than usual are choosing to not attend Chicago. Especially given last year's overenrollment, it seems expected that they would utilize a more conservative enrollment strategy and then use the WL. And I doubt anyone could say if or how this will affect rankings.BigRed1988 wrote:It seems like Chicago is taking a lot of people off the waitlist this year compared to other schools (I am one, so not trying to be offensive to anyone here)...Does this mean that more people who were originally accepted are choosing not to attend? Re: Chicago Class of 2014
I read into the situation only insofar as Chicago probably did not want to over-enroll again this year. From an admissions office perspective, I would think thatBigRed1988 wrote:It seems like Chicago is taking a lot of people off the waitlist this year compared to other schools (I am one, so not trying to be offensive to anyone here)...Does this mean that more people who were originally accepted are choosing not to attend? under-enrolled >>>> over-enrolled at the first deposit deadline.

They should have given them to people who wouldn't turn them down. Like me.Ghost wrote:^Interestingly though, a lot of the rubies seem to have been turned down for HYS.
I had a dream last night that Ghost and Dany went off of TLS forever. It was a terrible dream.
I think I need help.

Anecdotally, though, Karla did mention to me at ASW that they "needed" people to turn down rubies. That was before the deposit deadline, but still.

I know - I just mentioned Karla's comment because it seemed to suggest that they gave out many more rubies than they expected people would accept (as is the case with most full-ride schollies). I guess my point is that we shouldn't worry about UChi's enrollment or ranking based on TLS waitlist acceptances or people choosing HYS over a ruby.Sentry wrote:They're having no problem with that.afcanoe wrote:

We shouldn't worry about the rankings at all because as we all know the worst student at Chicago is better than the best student at HYS.afcanoe wrote:I know - I just mentioned Karla's comment because it seemed to suggest that they gave out many more rubies than they expected people would accept (as is the case with most full-ride schollies). Yes, they did give out more than the 20 per year, with the hope of getting around 20 people to accept.afcanoe wrote:I know - I just mentioned Karla's comment because it seemed to suggest that they gave out many more rubies than they expected people would accept (as is the case with most full-ride schollies). I can confirm this to be true. Dean Schill told me so.d34dluk3 wrote:There is too much going on in this comment.Sentry wrote:We shouldn't worry about the rankings at all because as we all know the worst student at Chicago is better than the best student at HYS.

Oh wow...the summers in Chicago are already so miserably humid and hot. Every time I'm there during that time, I drink gallons of water and take like four showers a day. I'd much rather be cold and not sweaty.. am I alone in this one?alphamoose wrote:http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/23/scien ... ago&st=cse
