Re: Chicago Class of 2014
Hi everyone!
So I created the TLS Chicago group. Is it ok that I made it closed instead of secret? If it is secret, I have to be fb friends with people to add them (I think). Which would force everyone who wanted to be in the group to out themselves to me...so I thought this would be the best option.
PM me if you want to be in the group and want the link to join!

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
Ok, so I'm a bit of a Loan noob and had a few question about the Graduate Loan Application. Before emailing Karla, I was wondering if yall could help me.
1) In the email she sent out, she said not to fill out the GradPlus Loan Application until June 15, this does not include the GradPlus portion of the Graduate Loan Application correct?
2) The old budget was $69,510. 6% increase equals $73,680.60. This is the amount we are requesting for 2011-2012?
3) Should I assume I'm going to get the maximum $6,000 Perkins? Or is it likely that I don't get any Perkins?
Thats it for now, but I won't hesitate to bother yall again if I have any other questions.

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
I put 3 for all of the quarters. I imagine that marks you as "full-time," which is likely the only distinction that matters. There's no way that putting 3 or 4 has any real effect on financial aid.alphamoose wrote:If anyone is going to answer these I have one of my own..rbarcelo9 wrote:Ok, so I'm a bit of a Loan noob and had a few question about the Graduate Loan Application. For number of courses do we just put 3 for all of the quarters?
As for the original questions, I'm not sure if this will help, but:
1) Although it's a bit unclear, my understanding is that you need to do everything EXCEPT actually apply for the GradPlus loans (on the official StudentLoans.gov website) by May 13th. You're supposed to have all of Steps 1 and 2 (LinkRemoved), as well as the MPN (maybe?) done by Friday.
2) I think so. Karla advocates applying for the maximum, as you can return money easily whenever you want, and that seems sound to me.
3) Perkins loans are rarer than other loans, I think. If a Perkins loan wasn't counted into your original financial aid package (the e-mail you probably got shortly after being accepted), I wouldn't count on it, but I can't say for sure either way.

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
I put 2 down for the first quarter, and 3 for the other ones. I bet that it doesn't matter though...
Edit: that was probably a bad idea, I just did it without thinking because the only thing that stuck out in my head was only two exams first quarter. If you don't see me in the fall you'll know why...

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
The sample 1L curriculum from the handbook:
Autumn Quarter: Elements of the Law, Civ Pro I, Crim Law, Contracts, LRW
Winter Quarter: Crim Law, Torts, Property, Contracts, LRW
Spring Quarter: Torts, LRW, Feminist Philosophy, Civ Pro II, Property
Yeah, it should be 5.
