I know they will release percentiles next week, but does anyone have any idea about where a ~3.5 usually ranks after first semester? Any idea what percentile that would be at graduation? Finally, how hard is it to raise a 3.5 and how easy is it to lower it?

Thanks!

After the first semester, the registrar only releases top 25% and median (maybe 33%, but I don't think so) for 1L's. The Registrar releases top 10% after second semester. Traditionally, 3.5 was the cutoff for top 10% after second semester, but top 10% jumped to 3.6 after 1L for the c/o 2013.

3.5 is probably top 10%, no lower than top 15% for your class, after one semester.

OCS lists class percentiles as of Spring 2011 and has graduation percentiles all the way back to 1998. It'll give you a good idea for how things end up.

1L's - now that you have grades and can stop caring, please stop showing up for class so I can get a decent spot in the garage when I roll in.

Get our Profs to stop taking attendance and caring about it. Then my parking spot can be all yours.

Someone earlier had the balls to park in the little white-striped area at the west end of the lower level.

Hey SMU'ers...

Are any of you or anyone you know looking to sublet a place in Dallas this summer? I'm looking for some place in uptown/oak lawn for the entire summer (May 10ish - August 10ish) for around 700-800/mo.

PM if you do!

It should be the week following the final week of exams. It's basically a week of your life, and it sucks.

Yeah, I saw that, but it's for the 2011 transfer class. I need the actual date for a plane ticket. It would suck to guess wrong, haha. Thanks though.

There should be an info session about it soon, but if last year is any guide, don't schedule it between May 6-14.

Any PT students out there that care to comment on their experience thus far? I'm a 0L who is looking for suggestions on how to juggle school, work, and family. I also have to travel sometimes for work. Are the professors generally cool about missing class for work or is that going to be an issue?

I am not a PT student but I am married to one, who does work 40+ hours a week has three kids and just started last semester.

To answer your question: the professors do NOT tolerate you missing class, granted you can, but they don't care that you have a life and can't spend every minute preparing for their class. Some are understanding.

My spouses daily routine is wake up, go to work until 5, go to school mon-thur 6-9 come home study till midnight.

Friday night, spend a little family time,

Saturday-Sunday try to get caught up.

You won't be able to travel much with your job, I understand you may not have a choice, but unless you have a photographic memory and a 200 level IQ you grades will not be great and you will always be behind.

sorry to be so bleak.

swilson215 when are you going to post in your blog again?

I'm a 1E and have had a great experience thusfar. Yes, it is possible to juggle everything, but your job needs to be somewhat flexible and your family must be understanding. Generally speaking, you must be willing to give up most of your Saturday and Sunday to study. I work full time, and my family time is mainly Friday and Saturday night. Otherwise, it's work and law school.

It is OK to miss class every once in a while. None of my professors seem to care. You would just need to get the notes from one of your classmates.

Feel free to PM me if you want more details.
