Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
My scholarship decision was just mailed. I was wondering if Duke has been formulaic about scholly amounts based on pure #s, or has it been highly variable for people with similar #s?
Thanks!
Thanks!

It seems that similar numbers have gotten scholarship offers at least in the same ballpark. But we don't have a very big sample size here.jrose5 wrote:My scholarship decision was just mailed. I echo this from observations from the last 2 cycles.beachbum wrote:It seems that similar numbers have gotten scholarship offers at least in the same ballpark. Any summer starters are interested in subletting 1 bedroom apt? Very reasonable rate, furniture and stuff included, available May 24th till the first week of August or so. On a bus stop that takes you to campus, across the street from Kroger and lots of other shopping in a nice area. Colonial Grand at Patterson Place. More details if you PM me.

When are fall starters planning on going to find housing? My job is going to go through the end of July, and I feel uncomfortable trying to move out of my current apartment (in California) and then moving my stuff/car cross-county and finding a place before class starts. I'm coming from markets where if you dont look for a lease at least 2 months in advance you're going to end up in a real shithole.

Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
I'm coming from tough California markets too, so I freaked out and found a place during ASW. However, I got the feeling that it would not have been a big deal to wait. I was looking to rent a bedroom/bathroom or inlaw unit in a house, and put an ad on Craigslist about a week before I was there to visit places. I was pretty much inundated with good options, and I don't think it would be too different later in the summer.
I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get an apartment in a complex though, if that's what you're interested in.

Made the final decision and sent in my deposit on Friday. See you guys in Durham in August!
The roommate and I have already started the application process to live in Alexan Garrett, so PM me if you're gonna be there too.

How long did it take for people to hear back about scholarship negotiation? I just sent mine in late last week but wanted to get an idea of the time line. Also, did people get a reply to their original email about negotiation because I didn't and just want to make sure that they got it.

Seriously? I have to put in a deposit at my other school by the 29th of April.... should I email that other school asking for an extension until Duke comes back with a renegotiated scholarship offer? Why does it take so long? Other schools got back to me within a week..........jrose5 wrote:~3 weeks. +another week for the form to actually arrive.tlslsnlsp wrote:+1badgers22 wrote:How long did it take for people to hear back about scholarship negotiation? Try calling/emailing and letting Duke know your situation. I got a decision within 24 hours last year because of my circumstances.tlslsnlsp wrote:Seriously? Thanks for the info. Since the 29th is next Friday I think I'll wait till this Friday and shoot the "can you guys hurry up?" email over the weekend. Please raise my offer Duke, I'm yours if the money makes sense!!!Jericwithers wrote: Try calling/emailing and letting Duke know your situation. Do you have to mail a check to Duke to make the tuition deposit. when is the deadline? I don't think I ever received a deadline? Does the check have to be received by the deadline or mailed by?

this information was all in my initial acceptance letter. the information is probably the same, but you should find yours and re-read it just in case. in my letter it said that the deposit is due April 29th and that it must be received by this date. the admit/decline form (located on the admitted students website) says This form must be submitted with your enrollment deposit and received in our office by the date specified in your letter/email (postmark date will not guarantee a seat in the class). Same for me this year. I told them of an upcoming deposit deadline for another school, and they got back to me within 2-3 days over the phone. The official letter didn't actually come in the mail until a week later though.Jericwithers wrote: Try calling/emailing and letting Duke know your situation. I also might be making this up, but I think there was some notice somewhere about significant delays when people mailed in their deposit check. Aparently US mail does not go directly to the law school. Fedex or UPS were recommended as alternatives. I am sorry I can't remember the source of this information.nihilism is key wrote:this information was all in my initial acceptance letter. the information is probably the same, but you should find yours and re-read it just in case. in my letter it said that the deposit is due April 29th and that it must be received by this date. the admit/decline form (located on the admitted students website) says This form must be submitted with your enrollment deposit and received in our office by the date specified in your letter/email (postmark date will not guarantee a seat in the class). Yep, if you send mail to them through the US postal service it typically takes 10 to 14 days to actually reach the law school since apparently all USPS mail gets delivered to a central location at Duke and then distributed to different departments. Apparently if you use FedEx or UPS, though, it gets delivered straight to the law school.

I remember reading this also, possibly in a deposit reminder e-mail. I ended up sending my deposit via usps but used the priority overnight option so it was guaranteed to arrive the next day and came with a tracking number. It did indeed arrive the next day (I received a confirmation e-mail from the law school)masochist wrote:I also might be making this up, but I think there was some notice somewhere about significant delays when people mailed in their deposit check. Re: Duke Law Class of 2014
So is everyone here pretty much set on Duke, then? It would be great to have a strong TLS presence in Durham.
Also, feel free to add your name to the Duke roster in the Class of 2014 thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 8&t=125921. Just for posterity and organization, ya know. And definitely not because I want to beat those other schools, especially Virginia.
