Im sorry to hear about your waitlist. Im not clear, is being waitlisted from ED the same as RD waitlisting? Is being held the same as being deferred? I got deferred after applying to undergrad ED, could that happen from UVA law?

Can I ask when you actually submitted?

Went complete on 9/30. Waitlist notification by email today around 1. Thanks for the sympathy but honestly I still think I have a shot. I'll apply to a bunch of other schools of course but it's really early in the cycle still. Maybe it's unrealistic but oh well.

Furrywalls, if you don't mind my asking, what kind of softs did you have? I should go complete tomorrow with a 170/3.32 and have been thinking that I might be a little bit too late as well.

Yes, just send in the ED form and they'll get back to you with a decision within 15 days of your file going complete.

Above average PS IMO, I clerked for a criminal defense attorney for 14 months while in school and he wrote me a strong LOR. I also think my GPA addendum was well done. Good luck with your app. Hopefully the waitlist will be good to me down the road so I can head to c-ville.

Thanks, I guess I'll just have to see how the chips fall. Good luck with the waitlist!

Got an email asking me to call this morning, I haven't quite yet, but from what I've gathered it's usually good news, so I assume I'll be joining everyone in Charlottesville next fall!

Don't mind at all - 3.52 and 175.

Also based on some earlier discussion:
I wrote a "Why UVA?"
One of my recommendations was targeted to UVA
I'm Virginia resident
I'm also a legacy

You were in for sure, you should be getting scholly money as well, if they hold true to their word. Then again i dont know if you need to be above both medians for serious consideration.

Nice numbers and congrats on the admission. I have to agree with jt1341 that you probably have some money headed your way as well.

@kayljsh
congrats on the admission!!

and, of course, good luck to everyone who is still in the midst of applying ED.
i think early October is still relatively early, altho i could be woefully misinformed...

i ain't gonna lie~ i'm interested to know what the social scene is like down there in c-ville. and i don't mean softball.
are most of the students fresh from UG, i.e. 25 and under? most of the older peeps married w/children? are there any people worth meeting from darden or the med school?
i'm sure c-ville is going to be great, but socializing pretty much follows the motto "uva, love it or leave it"~ am i right?
As to whether there are people from Darden or the Med School worth meeting. Both Schools are ranked in the top 10 or 15 in the respective fields and have some of the smartest most interesting people in the country among their ranks. So i'd say yea, its probably worth meeting them.
some of the smartest? for sure. i respect virginia far too much to think otherwise...
and i agree~ definitely, definitely worth meeting... <insert mental image of dustin hoffman here>
but how does that correlate to their overall aesthetic value? haha.

For those posting that are already at UVA Law, did you buy the computer bundle sold by the school, or did you just get your own? What would you recommend?

how does virginia place outside of virginia? i hear people in LA and NY say they don't generally look at people who don't go to school in state unless it's HYS. i know there are placement #'s, but in general: Virginia or Cornell in NY? Virginia or UCLA/USC in LA? (I'm leaving out schools in those regions that are ranked hire than UVA for obvious reasons). there is something romantic and incredible about going to school at a place founded by arguably the greatest president ever, and i don't doubt the campus life is maybe the best in the nation but what's their placement like outside VA?

I'd say a majority of TLSers buy their own computer. If you want a Macbook, the school's bundle isn't too bad. If you want a Windows machine, it makes more sense to buy your own.
Second, so you don't think there's any disadvantage having your own computer? It seems cheaper to buy my own laptop elsewhere, but the UVA website obviously makes it sound like you're better off with one of their bundles.

If you have ties to LA, you should still have a decent chance (provided you have decent grades). A lot of 'Hoos end up in NYC.
Do a decent number of CA firms do OCI at UVa?
