3) This may also seem counterintuitive because Hyde Park is full of students, but going out is expensive and inconvenient. See above about merchants having a captive audience. They have no incentive to compete for your beer dollars. In my part of Lincoln Park, though, I could get a dollar beer pretty much every weeknight. Not that I'll be going out weeknights once school starts, but you know what I mean. Also, if you're getting together with law school buddies on a Saturday night or something, I can say with 98% certainty that they'll want to go out on the north side. Being able to walk home at 3AM safely after drinks is going to feel really good when your friends who live in Regents have to worrry about a sketchy trip on the red line or a $40 cab.

When do we get our Chicago emails? And have they given us any post-deposit timelines for anything?

In all seriousness, does anyone know how far it is, bus commute-wise? I may need to add it to the list of places to check out, especially given the proximity to pet food stores.

Just checking in. Haven't really posted much so far. But I was at asw so I may have unknowingly met some of you. Sent in my commitment response and deposit on Monday. Definitely looking forward to a rigorous September.

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
After having spent time in Logan Square and Roscoe Village during ASW, I totally get where that person is coming from about living in the north side. It was great and we walked to everything and the restaurants were so cute and delicious and the bars were great. It was a 20min ride back to south loop, which is, of course, something like 15 minutes away from UofC, so I guess that's kind of far. I keep toying with the idea of living up there instead though... I don't know. HP just seems so crappy.

Right now I'm leaning toward lake view, lincoln park, or south loop.

I honestly feel like south loop is a happy medium. the rent is $$$ though. Have you found any places that aren't ridiculous?Sentry wrote:Right now I'm leaning toward lake view, lincoln park, or south loop.

No! South loop is like 2-300 more per month than lake view.sarahlawg wrote:I honestly feel like south loop is a happy medium. the rent is $$$ though. Have you found any places that aren't ridiculous?Sentry wrote:Right now I'm leaning toward lake view, lincoln park, or south loop.

From what i've heard chicago public transportation is faster during rush hour than during non rush hour.alphamoose wrote:In that note is says she takes a bus from Lakeview (I presume all the way down to Hyde Park?). Any idea how long this ride would take? It seems like it would be a while.. especially in the mornings during rush hour.

Doesn't class start at 8:30? That'd mean waking up (gasp) at 7? (Um, is that 0700 in the morning?)alphamoose wrote:Hmm ok! Having Lior as your tar MIGHT be a little too weird, even for this thread.

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
For public transport info check out http://www.transitchicago.com. There are 2 buses that go down to Hyde Park (that I know of) - 2 and 6. You can catch either of them from downtown/south loop. So if you're coming from the northside, you'd probably take the El down to Jackson/State, and then catch the bus. Looks like the express bus from south loop down to Hyde Park takes about 20 minutes.
