I was told that all offers have gone out, so they're "out of money to give" right now. You can be put on a list for later reconsideration.
Yeah, right. What a joke.
I guess I really am supposed to go to Michigan. I've gotten into Michigan, UVA, Northwestern and Georgetown. Michigan gave me money and none of the other schools are giving me a dime.
Oh well.

You guys all got your awards via your regular email addresses, right? If what you say is true, I am both gobsmacked and heartbroken. I can't attend at sticker, it's just not possible.

Yeah, I did at least, came to the same email they've sent everything else to. Knowing a little bit about your situation I'm sure the debt prospects are daunting. IMO the long term career prospects coming from NU (vs. Kent, Loyola DePaul) are easily worth 100k (esp when I amortize that over 20 years), but debt is a very personal thing. My wife gets freaked about it everytime we talk, I have to walk her through the LRAP calculator every couple of months to remind her that it isn't as bad as it looks.

Ugh seriously. I got this EXACT SAME LETTER last year.
Just got this email. I'm done with Northwestern, I'm not going 200k into debt to freeze.

Did you guys get this email because you inquired about financial aid or did you just get it? *Looks at empty inbox questioningly*

Got the email saying they ran out of funds. Was initially surprised because I've gotten money from a substantially higher ranked school, but then again I suppose if you consider NU's admissions preferences, being a senior in college probably had something to do with it. Oh well.

The TLS article on NW says the opposite:
According to LSAC data, Northwestern grants scholarships to one of the lowest percentages of students (31.6% in 2009) out of the Top 14 law schools. However, the median grant amount was the highest of all 14 schools at $20,000/year.
I'm not trying to cite this as the authoritative source on the matter, but I thought that NW's high median grant came from them not giving out many scholarships.
Here's the latest LSAC data - draw your own conclusions about this specific point or about the nature of self-reported data.
School - % Grant - Median Amount
Duke - 67.7% - $14,000
Michigan - 57.9% - $11,300
Virginia - 57.5% - $15,000
Chicago - 56.2% - $10,800
Columbia - 54.5% - $10,250
Yale - 53.6% - $21,410
Stanford - 50.1% - $22,178
Berkeley - 47.6% - $14,349
Harvard - 47.1% - $15,490
Penn - 39.9% - $14,000
Cornell - 36.9% - $18,000
Northwestern - 35.1% - $20,000
NYU - 34.8% - $20,000
Georgetown - 30.7% - $15,000
Well, your statement that they give $$ to "a higher percentage of admits than
many other T-14 schools" would technically be true on the LSAT.

Well just got an email with my loan package info... no scholarship money for me. But hey, congrats to everyone else! Has anyone ever heard of scholarships being given out at a later date due to people declining awards? Maybe there is still hope for me?

Weird that some people got formal "we have no more money left" merit scholarship rejections, and some just got "you have a lot of loans, so figure it out" e-mails.

Maybe they send them out as they get to our files? Maybe the email about your loans means that's it and the "we're out of money" email means you might still get some if any money frees up? But what do I know?

I got the email about my loan eligibility earlier tonight. No scholarship offer and no talk about being out of scholarship funds. I had no expectations of a scholarship, so I am not too bummed.

Yeah I think maybe I got the "we have no more money left" email because I sent them an email asking about the status of my financial aid application...

Naw, I wish. I'm in the Peace Corps, so no way to get there, unfortunately.

Are you somewhere cool? Maybe we can convince them to move ASW to Morocco or wherever.
