@ jt: Haven't taken yet. I understand they wouldn't consider yes/no until it went complete.
@tommynobody: Thanks. I'll leave it out.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
so what is the overall consensus about the "why uva" addendum anyway? for ED, i mean.
i know ppl say that if you do ED, it's sending the message anyway.
i wrote one because i didn't have any more space left in my personal statement, but still wanted to let them know why i wanted uva so bad.
just curious about the admitted EDers~ did anyone else write one?

I didn't write one and I got accepted this cycle. Like YCrevolution said, if it's well written it won't hurt. I don't know how much it helps for people who ED though.burger lover wrote:so what is the overall consensus about the "why uva" addendum anyway? for ED, i mean.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Question for you guys. For those of you who have heard back from UVA most recently, about how long did it take? I'm planning on getting my app in next week (ED - 170/3.32) and was wondering if it was taking the full 15 days since it's already comparatively later in the cycle. I'd have had it in already but I'm still waiting on a letter of rec.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Re: UVA Class of 2014
i was accepted recently~ here was my timeline:
tues sept 28:
my employer said he faxed in my LOR (my second one)
thurs sept 30:
submitted my app on lsac (without employer LOR showing)
got confirmation on the uva site/via email that my incomplete app and ED/residency forms were received
friday oct 1:
2nd LOR showed up on the uva site so i checked lsac and, sure enough, it had been received and sent
my status changed to "under review"
around lunchtime, got an email from jason dugas saying he wanted to "talk for a minute or two"
around 9pm, the celebratory drinking ensued
overall, as much as i sweated things out, i have to admit that the lsac dudes are seriously running a well-oiled machine up there in PA
and the uva peeps that i contacted with questions were super responsive
<insert ineffable sigh of satisfaction that my app cycle is over>

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I didn't do one, but I did have each of my LOR ppl write a separate letter for U.Va. Law mentioning that it was my first choice and details about why I liked the the school. I felt that since I'm not really completely sure exactly what direction I want to take in law, a whole "why uva" essay would have lacked a bit of direction and hurt my chances. Using the LORs was a great way to show that I have expressed a lot of the enthusiasm for the school.burger lover wrote:so what is the overall consensus about the "why uva" addendum anyway? for ED, i mean.

Burger lover and Alex_crip: Thanks so much for your responses. I've been sweating the relative lateness of my app and was worried that response times might be lagging (aka: my app might not be worth as much as late in the cycle.) Hopefully I'll be joining you guys with some good news in the near future!!!

I wrote one, and was actually told by admissions that it helped. It was pretty strong due to local connections to the area, though.burger lover wrote:so what is the overall consensus about the "why uva" addendum anyway? for ED, i mean.

+1. I too had an LOR written specifically for UVA.alex_cryp wrote:I didn't do one, but I did have each of my LOR ppl write a separate letter for U.Va. Re: UVA Class of 2014
so i know earlier in this thread ppl posted about "lawcest", dating undergrads, etc
i ain't gonna lie~ i'm interested to know what the social scene is like down there in c-ville. and i don't mean softball.
are most of the students fresh from UG, i.e. 25 and under? most of the older peeps married w/children? are there any people worth meeting from darden or the med school?
i'm sure c-ville is going to be great, but socializing pretty much follows the motto "uva, love it or leave it"~ am i right?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Ughhh, this wait is SO like the wait for LSAT scores. In June I was freaking out constantly because who knew when they were going to be released? Early would've been a nice surprise if I didn't know they released them early and so I was actually surprised! Same with UVA, its totally freaking me out that other people have heard the same day they went complete, whereas if I didn't know I wouldn't be nervous until the end of the 15 day period.

Don't be too nervous! I got in ED and I didn't hear for a week... I was worried at first that I didn't hear anything, but then it turned out fine! Yeah, they haven't let any new admits into the facebook group in the last few days either so the delay is probably just due to a lull in the admissions office and not any problem with your app. Don't you have like a 175? You should be fine.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
gave it my best shot. Being out of state and below both medians I was expecting a rejection, so being waitlisted was kind of a soft let down. Good luck to everyone, Charlottesville is a great place (I am currently a 4th year undergrad). So if you have any questions about Charlottesville feel free to ask me.....now the rest of my application process begins.

Re: UVA Class of 2014
I would say the majority are 25 and under, however if you are older there are certainly plenty of opportunities for socializing. As to whether there are people from Darden or the Med School worth meeting. Both School are ranked in the top 10 or 15 in the respective fields and have some of the smartest most interesting people in the country among their ranks. So i'd say yea, its probably worth meeting them.burger lover wrote:so i know earlier in this thread ppl posted about "lawcest", dating undergrads, etc

I've heard that apartments go super fast on Arlington. Is this true? And if so, when should those interested get in their application to secure an apartment?

Am I the first 170 to ED and get waitlisted? UVA is still my top choice but should I hold out any hope?

Re: UVA Class of 2014
It depends on which apartment complex you want to be in and what kind of place you want. I got my place on Arlington in March, but I didn't mind living with suitemates. But I'd say that if you know you're going to be here and you want to be on Arlington (since it's where all the cool kids are at) I'm not aware of any viable incentive to wait around.alex_cryp wrote:I've heard that apartments go super fast on Arlington. I will say that I've met people who put in for the Jeffersonian super early in January and still weren't able to get the kind of room they wanted (if any room at all) - so if you want to get in on that you need to put in for it the day it opens up.

Does UVA let you change your app from RD to ED after submitting your app??

Re: UVA Class of 2014
Unless something changed this cycle or I just missed something last year, the only way you can apply for ED is by mailing the ED form to them after you apply. So, I suppose the answer is yes.

This is interesting, most people with your numbers were getting in (or around your numbers). Then again most 170+ seem to have had a 3.3+ (just a feeling i have had seeing acceptances)furrywalls= wrote:Am I the first 170 to ED and get waitlisted?
