I mean i don't want to say that you have no shot, but with numbers below both medians your chances are extremely slim

I would bet $100 that he doesn't make it in. A non-urm isn't getting in with both numbers below median.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how long it takes to get accepted into the class of '14 Facebook group? I request to join a week or so ago and haven't been let in yet.

Is UVA one of the only T14 that will take almost anyone with at least one number above median ED?

Also, would a 4.0 163 or a 172 2.9 still get in RD (i have seen both these numbers in ED)

UVA does seem pretty unique in that, at least as far as ED is concerned, their decisions are incredibly formulaic. Assuming below median GPA, you get 170+ and you're in; you get anything else and you're thrown to the waitlist. As far as your examples, I kinda doubt it. UVA seems to be much, much more forgiving of a low number in ED than RD. Also, I believe they have somewhat of a GPA floor around 3.0.

Crazy you can screw around for 4 years of college, kill 1 test and be in at a T14 (T10)

I'm going to quit my job mid-July I think. Have a month or so to relax :) When are you going to start looking into housing?

Another Arlingtonian here! After 7 years in the DC area, it's definitely time for a change!

We should restart the "UVA Class of x" Happy Hours - the 2013 ones last year were great. Anyone interested?

"Your application for admission to the University of Virginia School of Law is now complete and will be forwarded to the committee for review and decision. If you've applied under the Binding Early Decision option, you will hear back from us within 15 days of the later of (1) when your file became complete or (2) when your residency status has been determined. Regular Decision applicants will likely hear from us starting in January."

January?!

Is it too late to apply ED?

+1. I just moved back to the area in August, but was here for five years from 03-08 as I went to GW UG. I can't wait to get down there. I would love to move down mid July, we'll see how that works out.

I'm going to look into housing ASAP... With that said, I'd like to shore up the roommate situation before I set anything into motion...

And keep me updated on the happy hour... I'd definitely like to meet up

I made a FB group for DC area people - it's called "UVA Law 2014 - DC/NoVA Area". It also has a great picture I just made in MS Paint. I was going to put my MS paint interpretation of a dinosaur, but I thought better of it.

Join and we can set up a happy hour or something.

Thanks for starting this thread, I've already seen a lot of useful stuff!

I was on the waitlist for the Class of 2013, got a call from Dean Trujillo in April, and accepted a spot in the Class of 2014. I'm so excited!!!!

Anyways, I'm in Charlottesville for the week and I'd like to scout out an apartment, because I'm going to be out of the country from January-July. I have a few questions (that haven't been addressed already):

(1) In general, how early can you pre-lease in Charlottesville?
(2) My dad lives in Afton, which would be about a 35 minute commute. What would my 1L experience be like if I decided to save a lot of money and live with him? I'm not a huge "party" person, and that's definitely not why I'm going to law school, but I'm not a loner/loser either. I want to have/make friends : )
(3) Along the same lines, what are places to avoid if I decide to live in Charlottesville and don't want to live in a loud complex? Recommendations for quieter complexes?
(4) I read on the law school's website that some of the best properties are handed down by word of mouth...any recommendations for 1 bedrooms NOT in the obvious complexes (Ivy, etc.)? Any condos, etc.?
(5) How good is the UVA bus system? What are some apartments along it?

Hhaha sorry I have so many questions, but maybe others are wondering the same things. This seems like the right place to ask!

Thanks so much.

Companies start pushing for you to renew your leases in late fall, and you can start leasing early spring. Some open up even earlier though if they know the tenants won't be back. The notoriously loud housing surrounds the corner and Rugby Rd., but that is mostly for UGs regardless and I wouldn't expect many law students to seriously consider it. Anything on Arlington Blvd between Emmet and the law school is going to put you in a very good place to walk to classs and there is a bus line that stops right there. Overall the busses are really good in the areas directly around grounds. Once you get a little bit further out you might have to start relying on city busses which aren't so great, but doable. If you have a car you could always just buy a law school parking pass or park in the Barracks shopping center every day and walk up. COL is really reasonable in Cville though and I think you would be doing yourself a disservice if you commuted from out of town every day.

Here is a link to the bus system's site. The law school is at 65 and only serviced by one line as you can see, but it is the Northline which covers a lot of ground. Take a look at the streets nearby and just google apartments and you will find options, they are everywhere. Noise shouldn't be too bad unless you are on the corner like I said.

I did hear of at least one person getting towed for using Barracks as their parking lot. They may not constantly monitor this, but they sure don't like it. I wouldn't recommend it as your primary daily parking strategy.

Actually that does make sense, I just recently saw that they have little security guard guys patrolling the parking lot and they would probably notice. While you could switch up your parking spot enough to not get towed, it probably wouldn't be worth it.
Regardless, I think commuting would be a terrible idea.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
