Can anyone help me negotiate more aid? I emailed them about talking about merit aid and they just responded with a 'i guess you haven't hear the good news! you already got some merit aid!'
I want to see if I can use HYS acceptances to get a full scholarship; otherwise I can't go. How would I word that? Should I even try? Should I wait to see if I get money at Columbia and then come back with that?
don't quote. thks

Michigan may be quite pleasant if all these Packer fans end up enrolling

This sounds like one of those "good problems". Congrats on all your acceptances.
I think the best thing to do here is be honest. Tell them how much you're interested in their school, but also explain that you've been accepted to higher-ranked schools and that money is a major concern for you. They understand how the process works, and besides, with your credentials they should be very interested in sweetening the deal. A friend of mine called a lower-ranked T14 school after he was admitted and explained that he'd been accepted to Columbia, and they gave him a full ride. He was originally offered a half scholarship, but they bumped it up after he called. The worst that can happen is they say no.

NikaneOkie, our situations are quite similar (HYS acceptances, half-tuition scholarships at Michigan). I was ridiculed for asking this same question in an earlier thread ("So, you're basically saying, 'Well, I want to go to HYS, but I'll consider your school, even though it may only turn out to be a last resort....that is, if you can recognize the awesomeness of my HYS acceptances and hand over a full ride in a fit of jealousy!'"). I'm sure you're aware that it's Michigan's policy not to "compete" with other schools' merit offers or increase the amounts of their own merit offers once they've been awarded. In your case, they may be playing dumb to avoid having to grant an exemption from their policy to someone who may be worthy of one. If you decide to pursue this and do delicately "ask" for a Darrow invite, please PM me if it works

Michigan says they don't consider competing offers, and people on TLS get crazy when it is suggested that it isn't the case- but there is definitely evidence that they do.
It's worth a shot, IMO.

Whatever the case, I now have something to send to Boalt. Let's see what happens. I will just enjoy all the traveling in March and see.

Hey everyone- current Michigan student writing to say WELCOME! This place is awesome.
My ulterior motive for posting is to try to find a subletter for my awesome one-bedroom apartment 8 minutes from campus for the summer. If you're interested, get in touch- I know how hard it is to find housing when you're not in AA, and at the very least, I can give you some idea as to where to live (even if not my place). PM me if you want to hear about the place.
Buuut since I'm here, feel free to post some questions about Michigan Law. TLS was really helpful when I was applying. If you could send me a PM if you post questions, that'd be useful for me to remember to come back and check. Congrats y'all!

I just wanted to say hello. Received my admissions packet on Saturday and I'm excited to visit.
I'm going up over President's Day weekend, they have classes on February 21st and I don't have work that day. If anyone else is going to be there that weekend, let me know.

I'd take a shot if you have something compelling. I'm not sure what mere acceptance to H would do for you though... There are surely a number of students who were accepted to H that don't have darrows.

Can you please give us a hint?
I am very curious and surprised this actually worked to the level that it did.

Checking in! Just got the packet in the mail on Fri.

How long did you all have to wait for your scholarship info? Did it come by email or snail mail?

This may sound kind of babyish of me, but here goes.
MICHIGAN! I WANT A FREAKING DECISION! Harvard has gotten back to me; why can't you? I need to get all of my offers on the table so that I can make a decision and figure out where I'm going to be living in September!
That's all. I have a feeling I'm not the only one who feels this way.

How long did it take everyone's "mail & money" to start working?

My fiancée wasn't admitted to the UMich doctoral program she applied too, so I've gotta cross this one off my list. I wish you all the best, and maybe I'll see some of you in other threads!

Sorry! Looks like you have some other amazing options though. Good luck with your decision!

What do you mean by "working"? I was able to see Communications by the time they shipped the packet (a day after I got into admitted students website). The financial aid section seems to be permanently not working for me--though others have it working and listing awards.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
