The financial savings you may make by sharing an apartment vary from place-to-place around Nashville. The Grove, for instance, goes from a 1 bed 1 bath at $1,050 per month plus utilities ($60-120 per month according to a rep) to 2,075 for a 3 bed 2 bath plus utilities. That's a pretty significant savings per person. The metropolitan, on the other hand, shoots from $945 for a 1 bed 1 bath to 1,575 for a 2 bed 2 bath. You just have to decide how much the privacy and quiet of being able to escape to your own place is worth to you. Or for some, like myself, having some other people around so you don't crazy is just an added bonus. My undergrad is about 40 minutes from Nashville, so I've been looking around for deals, and one thing I would recommend for people going for roommates is to check out craigslist for townhomes and condos that go up for rent as summer comes - this is where the best deals will be.TheFactor wrote:Haven't looked at housing options in depth as of yet, but The Grove looks pretty good from what I can tell...planning on taking a closer look next moth during the ASW.
I've been trying to decide on living alone vs. with a roommate or two. Any thoughts on this?

That sucks because I've only been complete since February 8th.. Have you still not heard from them? I thought surely I'd get a reply this week but if you still haven't, that's not gonna happen.

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
I visited 20 and Grand and the Grove. I loooved the Grove (particularly Richland). It was gorgeous and really nicely maintained. 20 and Grand wasn't bad, but kind of old. The location was great, but I wanted something newer (my apartment this year is old and awful)

I agree! When did you go and how was the weather? I went in Aug and then in Dec and it was standard summer/winter weather but I was wondering when winter begins and ends there....if that makes any sense. I'm from Chicago and i know our winter starts in late Oct and goes until about April. Super hopeful that Nashville isnt the same!!!
Going to school in Ca thinned my blood out quite a bit haha

I'm pretty set on Blythewood right now (975 /month). I don't mind being a few minutes down the road since the Green Hills area is great.
I live here already, so if anyone needs any help with anything as far as local information - I'd love to help out!

I'm probably going to be sending in my deposit later this week. I'm interested in living within walking distance to the school and would prefer to have a roomate to cut costs. If anyone is interested (preferably female), pm me!

I'll be sending in my deposit later this week. I love Vandy and I'm super excited to finally know where I'll be next year. Also freaking out about making it official. Serious commitment issues, I guess.

Sorry to double-post, but does anyone know when orientation starts? I'm trying to plan when to move up to Nashville and I want a couple weeks to get to know the city/get settled in before all the crazy starts.

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
Last year, the orientation was August 16-20, so I assume it will be the week of August 15th this year with classes starting on the 22nd.

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
Is anybody interested in living downtown with me? I'm looking at a two-bedroom loft at 2nd and Demonbreun for $1125 so splitting that with a roommate would be VERY reasonable. I'll be out of the country all summer so I won't be able to check it out in person, but I like the idea of living downtown and it's only 2 mi from the law school. PM me if you're interested.

That's a great deal! 2nd is the big club area, so it would definitely be great on weekends - sometimes a little too great, but that's an awesome price for downtown.

I really am hoping to find something at the Bristol on Broadway, if not then I'll be in the Grove. Richland > Whitworth, btw

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
Whitworth is only a little older and some floorplans ARE cheaper (so if you get that, take it), but the Richland has a waaaay nicer kitchen. Really nice cabinets, counters and appliances. My kitchen right now really sucks (bugs, no actual cabinet doors, crappy appliances) and I love to cook so it's a gamechanger!Magnolia wrote:Why R > W?akili wrote:I really am hoping to find something at the Bristol on Broadway, if not then I'll be in the Grove.
