Law school has a list of people seeking housing. Too lazy to find the link at the moment.

Hey all, checking in here. Pending scholarship offer (per email it was mailed on Monday, so hopefully I'll get it today or tomorrow) I'll be attending Iowa in the fall. 171/2.94, Iowa resident. Hope to see some of you either at ASW or in the fall!

Anyone have advice for how to find housing in IC? I've tried to find stuff online so I can visit and sign a lease when I'm there in March, but it's really hard. The most challenging part is finding a place that takes my dog as well (even though he is very well trained and only 10 pounds). Thoughts?

Anyone have advice for how to find housing in IC?
I found my places the past few years through word of mouth and Craigslist. Word of caution though...Stay away from AUR/Apartments Downtown/Apartments Near Downtown. It's all actually the same company, and they're involved in a huge class action suit right now for illegally charging their tenants for various things. I bring this up because it's the largest renting company in Iowa City so it may be tempting to rent from them, but STAY AWAY. I rented from them two years ago...horrible experience.

In my experience, the best bets are finding the smaller renting businesses that own smaller complexes, usually run by one or two people with eight or fewer units included. I have found the bigger the unit/company, the skeezier the landlords. It's not a science, but I have always had the worst luck/my friends have been screwed when renting from larger companies.

Here are some great people to lease from according to my friends and my own experience:
Phil Launsbach - I've heard nothing but raves about this guy. He owns multiple properties in the downtown area, usually smaller units/houses split into multiple areas for rent. Apparently he's the nicest guy, very fair, and great about maintaining the units. 319-321-9932

Larry Waters - he owns a few properties right downtown. Mostly two bedroom units I think. Central air, big, very reasonable prices. Old as the crypt keeper, but very nice. 319-338-9796

Hope this was a little bit helpful!

Thanks! Very helpful. I guess I'll just have to peak around when I get to town.

When do most apartments get leased by?

Iowa resident here and I also have had sisters who gone to Iowa. My sister says to find housing ASAP. They go super super fast as in by March. Find something on the westside, that's where most of the grads/law students stay. And if you value your sanity, stay away from downtown. It's where all the undergrads/bars are. Looks like my search has commenced...Hope this helps!!

P.S. If ne one wants a roommate, hit me up!

I might be down for a roommate if you don't mind dogs!

Yeah, I saw that...

...Does anyone know of any dog friendly apartments? I'd like to avoid buying a house, but I may have to from the looks of it.

Which languages? I want to go to Bucerius and there is only one position (German). I went there this winter to visit my host brother and it is a beautiful campus right near the heart of Hamburg. Anyone else looking into the Bucerius program?

Low, I know, but I really played on my softs (my own company and speak 3 languages).

+1 I have a lot of friends who got caught up in this lawsuit. Renters beware.

+1 on what's already been said. Don't delay in finding housing and don't rent from apartments downtown.

My guess is you'll likely get some money. I'd say around half.

Same OOS still nothing. Guessing I'll be YP'd since it's so late in the cycle.

There's not--I checked. If I wasn't so computer illiterate, I would make one. Who wants to create one???
