Does anybody who got admitted with one of these scholarships having any thoughts?

I doubt any other schools to which I applied are going to come close to this, so it is going to be next to impossible to pass up.
holy moley - trying a little hard? Geez, some people are never happy. They always want more money and then a solid school ponies up some serious cash and they get suspicious.

No, not concerned, not suspicious. Excited? yes.
To be honest at first your post pissed me off, BUT, point taken. I agree with you, legit school and near full tuition scholarship, I am stoked. It is irrelevant how many other people are receiving scholarships.

haha, sorry man - wasn't intended to offend. But if that ruffled your feathers, you may want to proceed with caution around this site. I'm occasionally a jerk, but some of these people are vicious.

P.S. Can you tell your undergrad institution to make a decision on me? AZ's sun may be the only thing to lure me away from the pile for cash at IUB.

sabotage: Indiana-Bloomington's law school received a very large donation--either $30 or $35 million--to fund law school scholarships. Your law school application just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

@TommyK Hey you and me both man. Outside of their early decision applicants it seems ASU is going to take their sweet time in deciding on the regular pool. They do not have an online status checker right? I pretty sure they don't because I scoured the website and I couldn't find it.

I am sure I don’t need to point this out but that good ol' Arizona sunshine freaking SUCKS for a good 5+ months out of the year. Bloody fucking hot. It’s gorgeous right now but you pay for it, believe you me.

@Canadianwolf - yep, it seems that is the case. super glad I decided to apply.

I sent an email to admissions yesterday letting them know that I will be attending in the fall. I turned down Michigan, UCLA, and Cornell, amongst others. Here's to hoping that I don't come to regret it.

Wow... that's a tough call. I probably would have lost many nights of sleep over the decision between Michigan at sticker and Indiana for free. Suddenly I'm somewhat glad I have a crummy gpa and am shut out of making that decision. Congrats on making the decision! You'll probably be happy to graduate with $180k less debt (AA is wicked expensive).

geraldo8187: You're an Indiana resident who received 3 years of out-of-state tuition from Indiana ? Doesn't make sense.

(Your lawschoolnumbers.com profile shows you as an Indiana resident, male, receiving $129,000 Indiana scholarship, 167 LSAT , 4.00 LSDAS GPA (3.96)).

It is a bit misleading, but I didn't want to be mistaken for the group that received 3/4 tuition. I felt as though $129k was the easiest way to numerically describe full tuition + $3k annual stipend. Hopefully that makes it a bit clearer.

I'm about 95% certain I'll be attending IUB in the fall. Definitely going to the Spring Law Day in March. I can't decide whether or not to enroll in the summer start program though. Anyone have any strong feelings one way or another? Getting a class under my belt before classes start is awfully tempting!

Also, I didn't get an e-mail from a 2L or 3L. I got an e-mail from an alum who is working at a firm in Indy. Anyone else receive this?

Can I ask what convinced you? With the T14 or bust mentality of TLS, my excitement for IU-B has been waning (not that I had T14 options).

Obviously, the full tuition scholarship will lighten the debt load after graduating. Big-Law could be nice, but if I graduate and feel like doing something else, I'm not going to feel pressured to take a job that I don't really want just because of the money. Also, I'm from Indiana, so the prospect of sticking around Indianapolis or another Midwestern city doesn't frighten me the way that it does most TLSers. Whilst initial employment prospects might be better out of higher-ranked schools, I firmly believe that a good lawyer will ultimately be successful and a poor one will not, regardless of which law school they attended.

Other things that caught my eye about IUB: 1) being ranked 14th in the Vault rankings and cited as a place for "grounded, hard-working students", 2) the recent surge in USNWR rankings due to the large donation has convinced me that the school will at least stay in the top 30, and 3) there's a certain blue-collar appeal to choosing a public university in my home state over an Ivy or another T14. All said and done, IUB isn't some TTT or TTTT, it's a very strong regional school in a beautiful college town that will give me ample opportunity to prove myself if I'm talented and driven enough. If I'm not either of these things, then not even a degree from Michigan will save me.

Well-reasoned, thought-out, rational response. What the hell are you doing on the Internet?

IU is like hitting the freaking lottery for me. It is easily the highest ranked school I have been admitted to and has offered what will def be my biggest scholarship (120k).

I have a 2.85 UGPA. There is no way someone with that number should ever be getting close to a full ride at a T30 school. In most years I would have gotten about 5k per year from IU. This year, the stars aligned, the angels sang and the scholarships have been off the charts. Hallelujah!

I am 99.9% sure I will be attending. I can't make Spring Law Day, so I will be visiting later this week. Unless they are slaughtering kittens in the hallways, I will be committing while I am there. I am sorry though that I won't get to meet any of you until at least summer start. I am excited about what is to come.

BTW, I was kidding before, I would gladly join in the slaughter of kittens for $120,000

And also thanks for your thoughtful response Geraldo. I agree whole-heartedly. I hope my question didn't come across as ungrateful or bashing on IU.

Not at all. My understanding was that you were merely curious.

Okay, so I am heading up to IU Thursday and Friday. I will be sitting in on a class, talking to financial aid, the usual stuff. I will try to snap a couple of pics to upload, is there anything in particular that someone wants a shot of? Or, is there any question you want me to ask while I am there.

I sort of see these visits as an opportunity for the whole TLS community to get a little more info. So, while I make no promises, don't be afraid to ask.

Hmmm. Seeing that it's Thursday, I assume you might not see this now. Shoot. Photos would be awesome. Well, let us know how the kitten slaughter goes at least. I'll be there for Spring Law Day -- I see that they're reimbursing us for travel/lodging... and I'll be sharing a hotel room with a random for a night or two, if it means cash :D

I wonder how their medians will change with this extremely aggressive scholarship strategy.

At the end of the day, I think the logic of the donation was as follows:

1.) Get the medians up this year to put the school above Notre Dame.
2.) Naturally get better numbers next year, and also throw some more full scholarships than usual around.
3.) Same thing in year 3.
4.) Hope the class of 2014 places very well, and permanently boosts the ranking.

I think last year students were wondering the same thing, and the LSATs didn't budge. But I don't think they were throwing around quite this much money. I'm guessing the median will bump up to 165 next year. If it's 166 that'd be quite a jump :) Only one school on this list: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=128236 (FSU) was able to see a 2-point bump, from 158 to 160.

About 95% sure I will be attending in the Fall. My stats were very much less than stellar, and I still got 90k. Though this is not as much as everyone getting 120k, I am still very very excited about it.

Since they're making a super aggressive move to up their LSAT median, I'm really curious how this will affect their GPA median. It seems like they're giving a lot of money to people with kinda low GPAs. Thoughts?

95% chance Im going in the fall. I was REALLY interested in IUB and Im glad they accepted me. That kind of money from a top school is going to be hard to pass up. Im going to try to visit before I commit, but its looking good. SJU is my only other realistic option, but they just dont stack up to IUB.

When do you think a FB page is gonna be created? And they still haven't updated the admitted students page on the site..? I'm sure a good deal of people are at least 75% positive they'll be attending by now, if not totally sure.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
